Jorge Arce vs. Jorge Lacierva, 10 rounds @ featherweight

 

This grizzled-vet Jorge vs. Jorge battle is DIRTY! (mostly the fault of Arce, lots of body-slamming, rabbit-punching, low blows and other rough stuff - while Lacierva is just making it ugly with lots of hugging and ducking low)

 

This is actually on delay, but the main event might be coming up live afterward.

I just had the result spoiled for myself on Twitter. (still not updated on Boxrec)

Arce scored a knockdown (which came from a flying elbow and his own hurtling momentum tackling into Lacierva, as much as the accompanying flurry of punches) but also had two points deducted for abundant fouls (intentionally shouldering Lacierva in the face, nut shots, billy-goats, kidney whacks, all kinds of nonsense)...making it the rare 8-8 round!!

 

This fight is buck wild.

Lacierva is at times looking very crafty and nailing Arce with some hard smack-down counter rights, sending him reeling into the ropes. Arce is just bulling his way in close and leaning on Lacierva, throwing bombs all over the place while completely smothering himself.

 

The unofficial scorecard for the Azteca commentators through five has it 49-47 to Arce, giving Lacierva the 1st and the 4th even.

 

Now the unofficial scorecard reads 58-57, with Lacierva given the 6th.

 

Lacierva keeps falling, mostly from pushes. His left shoulder may be aggravated; he keeps pawing at it. Arce seems to know it and keeps grinding his glove into the shoulder to drive Lacierva to his knees.

 

Another point from Arce in the seventh.

 

Lacierva is counted out while sitting on his stool in the corner at the start of the eighth.

Literally, the bell rang and the ref began a count. Ten seconds into the round, Lacierva was ruled "knocked out" for his failure to rise.

He does seem to have sustained a left shoulder injury; the corner is massaging it as they remove his gloves.

It will be recorded as an official TKO8 for Arce.

 

Pretty much, but Lacierva (despite being retired for two years) did have some moments.

They make a 10-round co-feature between washed-up guys their main event and don't even televise a world title eliminator? :-(

 

Arroyo stopped Marquez in 11, and dropped him four times.
