Straight question really, how good do you think he is?

I must confess, I did him a disservice regarding the first Concepcion fight. I didn't acknowledge the great work he did outboxing El Nica post 4th round and attributed it mostly to stupidity on the Panamanian's side, rather than at least giving Tyson credit for fully exploiting such shortcomings.

I was wrong, and I'm rather happy I was, because his absolute demolition job in the return has made it obvious: he can live up to the potential he demonstrated early on in his career.

There was serious hype building around him until he lost widely to the decent - and not much more - Richie Mepranum, where his world really came crashing down around him, getting thrown in and getting beaten soundly by Nonito Donaire. And just when it seemed he was being made a sacrificial lamb again, against Concepcion, he turned it around and has now established himself as one of the best at 112lbs.

It's been quite a change of fortune for him, he's now being spoken about with the likes of Wonjongkam and Mthalane, perhaps even Segura too? How does he get on with those names, and can he improve even further at only 23?

Kids obviously talented. I thought Concepion would stop him in the rematch, thought the relentless pressure and right hands would find a home. Hold my hands up and say I was totally wrong but have to say that is as much down to Concepions shortcomings as Tysons talent. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and looking back Concepion has gaping flaws, many presumed he would have ironed these out but he hadn't and fair play to Tyson he took full advantage.

I would hope he fights 4/5 times next year, realistic considering he's with zanfer and beltran likes to keep his boys busy. Hopefully one of those fights will be a unification.

If it was pong he was fighting, which I highly doubt, I think tyson would be able to bother pong with his pressure. Would be a close fight, don't think tyson would be able to stop him but he seems to have a good engine and may just outwork pong to a pts win.

Viloria would get stopped imo. He may be able to box a bit but couldn't see him getting past the middle rounds.

I think Marquez is a much better boxer than segura and if he could avoid getting sucked into a war I could see him getting a pts win if not a late stoppage. Question is could he avoid a war with segura? I'm not sure he can. Don't know who I would pick in that case but I'd love to see it.

Mthalane I've never seen but his manager has already called out Marquez for a fight in Mexico next year over at the scene

No way. It was hardly Cardona-Avelar. He seems a decent fighter, but I'm not willing to say he's a 'star' yet. He looks a pretty good fighter, but I've not been blown away just yet, even though Concepcion was.

That was a very good win for Marquez, no doubt. But he's not even the best at the weight yet, hopefully see him in with Segura next (don't see Wonjongkam fighting him) :good

    Preposterous!

Highly unlikely Wonjongkam fights Marquez (unifications between Asian fighters and lower weights not common) but it could be a career definer, that would round off his ring record and cement him as an ATG Fly IMO.

Far, far harder than Sosa. I say let Marquez and Segura beat the shut out if each other first. Stylistically favours Marquez IMO, he'd land the cleaner, harder shots and stop Giovanni in a war!

Do you think Marquez beats Segura in the power department? He has better technique but I feel Segura still has more power. I think Marquez has the better skills and if he chooses to use them would beat Segura but I'm not sure he could stop himself engaging in a war. If that happens it could go either way I feel. Does beltran have a history of putting his fighters against each other? At least I think he looks after Segura too.

When I think of that fight I think of, dare I say it, corrales vs castillo on a lower skill level

Segura has oomph of course, but I'd say he requires an accumulation to lay waste to the top tier. He is bullishly strong as well, but I reckon Marquez can land cleaner shots on Segura as he throws the kitchen sink at him.

I really like Segura, moreso than Marquez, but he took big shots from Concepcion, the hardest one-shot hitter in the division, so I'd fancy him to pull through the inevitable bad moments he'd have with Segura.

Really I shouldn't favour either really. What has Segura done at Fly yet? And despite his power, is Concepcion actually a top class fighter? His deficiencies would suggest not, but I wouldn't mark him off as a '2nd tier banger' yet but although Marquez is undoubtedly one of the best fighters in the division, I'm not sure he'll continue in his career with consistent success.

Let's hope the fight can be made. It needs to happen :yep

:D not a chance of that happening I know, still that win over Marquez is looking more shiny the better Marquez is fighting:deal

there are some very good fights to be made for Marquez though, if a unification was at all possible fightss with Wonjongkam, Viloria or even Mthlane would improve his standing a lot. If a unification was to take place, I think the most likely one to be made would be with Viloria. Would be an exciting fight to.

No it isn't. It's showing more than ever that Marquez is a natural Flyweight, and was green and coming off a loss against Donaire. Donaire, coming into the ring as a big Featherweight, against a man who would claim a version of the Flyweight title.

That's how they will see it ;-)

Segura seems to have Viloria wrapped up for next year, which
Makes a Marquez segura fight next summer all the more appealing

Viloria is inconsistent and can fade. Segura will break him down.

Yeah Marquez was definitely green coming in against Donaire, no doubt that hes a better fighter today and is only showing us his best now.

Still you cant completely discredit Donaires wins over Mthalane and Marquez. they looked like fairly routine and easy defences to me at the time. I never thought either of them would go on to win titles. Just goes to show how they have improved.

Never heard that fight was being made tbh, I havent been keeping up with the lower weights enough recently. Is it signed or just been discussed?
