Whether the fights here in the United States or in England on Herol Graham's home turf James "Lights Out" Toney schools this guy the same way Graham got blasted and schooled by Sumbu Kalambay over 12-rounds in their 1987 WBA Middleweight title eliminator, which to my memory was on Graham's turf. Toney by decision, 12 or 15-rounds. Note: It's still hard to believe that by some cooked up political scheme back in early 87' by both the WBA and IBF that Graham was basically made as the reason/scapegoat behind those two crooked organizations stripping Marvelous Marvin Hagler of his two thirds of the Undisputed Middleweight Championships while Hagler was in training for his big money PPV/CCTV showdown with the comebacking Sugar Ray Leonard just because they felt slighted over the fact that, besides Leonard not being a ranked contender at 160, both combatants agreed to the WBC's 12-round limit as opposed to their 15-round limit. Kalambay's dominating victory over Graham all but proved that he was not worthy of being a mandatory for any title while Hagler was still on top and Graham's flop was definitely a blow up in both the WBA and IBF's faces.
It's hard to say for me. I personally think Graham was one of them fighters where certain styles would always beat him. He had it all except for sharp defense. He wanted to play and use his footwork to dance around the ring and entertain. Often he'd forget to keep his hands up when cornered. Kalambay was a very game fighter who can trouble anybody. No shame in losing to him. He just was his boogeyman. You always get 1 or 2 fighters like that who becomes anothers boogeyman. I believe Herol was a world class fighter who just fell short of the world title honour. Herols no pushover, he koed Lindell Holmes in 5 early on in his career. He wouldn't have been a match for Hagler, no.
