Herol Graham vs Kalule

That's right, Bill. Kalule was a rugged, blue collar slugger. Just like Michael Moorer was a true technician and would beat the brutish, brawling Saad Muhammad because of it. Always on point.:good

 

No doubt Moorer was a better technician than Saad M... Saad had better whiskers, but Moorer's skills were superior... No **** there.....deal:bbb

A few questions, if you don't mind: A) Have you ever actually watched either of them fight? B) Do you even vaguely understand boxing technique? C) Are you high?

 

Kalule's style reminds me of Valdez

 

Timothy Bradley's style reminds me of Johnny Caldwell.

 

Kalule looked the part but he wasn't much of a puncher. He may have pressed forward, imposed his physicality a bit but cannot really be categorized as a slugger/pressure fighter. He didn't have the power to seriously threaten most opponents, a fact he acknowledged, and was rather content to win on points. A well-balanced fighter without any truly outstanding qualities.

 

Time for a new, more interesting thread: Saad Muhammad v. 175 version of Michael Moorer.

Saad M. was rugged, tuff, hard punching and owned a great beard prior to 1981... BUT! He was not a truly gifted boxer with amazing skill and technique... He defended his WBC title several times by out-lasting his opponent...

Michael Moorer was a fierce bomber at 175 who really didn't develop his skills fully until venturing upward to 200+ pounds... At 200+ pounds, Moorer's technique was very good, but, he had a shaky jaw...

In a time machine at 175, a fight between Saad M. and Moorer would be a chiller and a thriller, but I favor Moorer by a **** hair.... As a 200 pounder, its no contest.... Moorer smokes Saad M. with ease above 175....

The last time I saw Herol Graham fight was with Vinny Paz on the USA network back in the late 90s if memory serves me correct... I think Graham won a decision.?.? I gotta review my tape... I have it laying around...

That's right. Graham made a pretty good comeback in the late '90's. His manager's big mistake was risking his European Title in '87 against Sumbu Kalambay. Kalue ties in here because Kalue had beaten Kalambay, then Graham beat Kalule for the Euopean Title. At that point, Graham was the #1 contender for one of the three World tiltels vacated by Sugar Ray Leonard. I can't remember which one. Instead of fighting a tomato can, or waiting for the shot at the vacant title, Graham risked the European title against Kalambay an lost a decision. Kalambay got the title fight instead of Graham and soundly outpointed Iran Barkely. I'm pretty sure Graham also could have easily outboxed Barkley, so he blew a great chance at a World Title. His manager probably figured he could beat Kalambay, but why risk it? The lesson - when you're the number 1 contender, don't fight anyone remotely threatening until you get the title fight.
