going into his 5th year as a pro and already has a belt to go along with his unblemished record ... I say bring on Calzaghe ... especially if he loses to Hopkins ... why not have Bute finish him off !!
He doesn't think he's ready, nor does his trainer or the vast majority of objective good analysts...:think ...so, why would a Champ in his position call out or agree to fight the other Champs, if he thinks he can improve and be even better in a year or so...? It's not like he's refusing the top fights forever...just for a little while, to give him a chance to catch up.
This is exactly my stance too Decebal. Surely you must have expected some of us to agree with your thread title.:deal
Calzagh will certainly not lose to Hopkins, barring a strange and very controversial DQ or something. But if Calzaghe wnted to fight Bute at the end of 2008, I'm almost certain Bute would say YES!:good
All that said, and you are one of my favorite poster on here, and I'm not going to argue with you over a fighter we BOTH like. lol
:nono We're only using Bute as an example...the discussion is about the principle... Say...that Calzaghe beats Hopkins and Dawson beats Johnson and Diaconu and Calzaghe calls out Dawson. What if Dawson says: Damn...this guy is too good for me right now...I'm barely 26...maybe in a year I'd beat him but not now...I need a bit more time to improve...I'll pass for now... ...what would you say?:think I would say: fair enough...
I would have thought that each case deserves to be judged on it's merits ?? For instance, imagine how much stick Hatton would have got if he'd agreed to fight Gavin Rees when he was champ - isnt that a similiar case turned on its head ??
OK, honestly brother, I would say that Dawson needs to pack his belt in his bags, head over to Calzaghe Camp, knock on the door, and hand him the friggin belt. In that case. Then in a year or two, when he is ready, he can try to get it back.
I haven't seen Bute fight so I don't have any idea as to if he would be ready or not. But, I do believe that in certain instances, a title holder may not be ready to fight another titleholder in their division. Mainly in cases where someone at the beginning of their career gets an early title shot and win and just isn't ready to face a dominant champ yet.
As a Dawson fan I say bull****. If you can fights guys like Adamek and Johnson then you can fight Calzaghe and you can def fight a bum like Diaconu. I got new for you Bute ISN'T that young. He'll be 30 in two years. He's already been pro 5 years and won a title. If he isn't even willing to fight a guy like Miranda then he shouldn't even be fighting.
The two cases you've stated are only examples of hypothetical situations. Surely you agree that not all world champs are the finished article and should do what they feel is best for them to continue to improve ?
