When it comes to the left hook and uppercut I ALWAYS freeze/overthink before I commit, and I end up having no pop on either shot. Now if I throw a left jab I have no problem at all throwing the shot with power, so my left isn't completely useless, it just doesn't do what I'd like it to do when it comes to throwing anything BUT a jab with that hand. Is it my mechanics? I can't generate the power on those shots with my left that I can with my right. Is it a mental block? Again, no problem throwing said shots with my right. Help me out!
Listen, if you hesitate to throw you're going to get beaten up, why not throw and and get beaten up but at least you got some shots in as well, never throw without setting it up with the jab, i always jab jab jab then throw uppercuts and step in with the jab to do a hook then you wont be afraid, either way your opponent is still going to hit you so you may as well hit back.
Years. It's just that ANY shot other than those that I mentioned can come off automatically, yet when I throw those mentioned I instantly hesitate and then mess up the mechanics of said shots.
i never heard for such a problem maybe it is really mental. I would suggest you to throw lot of fast combinations of mixed straight hands and uppercuts/hooks, it should make it flow. Also, try to finish with strong hook or uppercut. Make that combinations flow, so that punches can be the same as straights.
It's not so bad when I throw it in a combo and it's not the last punch of the combo. It's also ok off of the slip. It's just if I was to throw it singularly or end a combo on it. That's where the problem lies.
Do you have any video footage? Uppercut is really an opportunity punch, so are you talking in sparring? Are you putting all your weight behind your left hooks and rotating your hips accordingly?
Try some different thing. Try bending your front leg more. Or try setting up a single hook using a little head movement. Perhaps you can even forget your technique altogether for a moment. Just do whatever it takes to comfortable throw a hook. And once you can do that, then figure out how to incoporate it into the rest of your style. Without footage it's hard to tell though. Also if you don't want to post footage publically, Steel is good at responding to PMs with good advice.
Sparring & pad work mate. I am, but it's as if I can't get that whip/snap in my hips that I can when I throw a right hook/switch stances and throw a right hook.
