If Floyd is really going to retire, I would like to give him his props as a boxer. Althought I have criticized him a lot over the last two years, lets look at his career as a whole and give the man his dues.

Here are my three reasons that we should be giving him credit rather than cutting him down today:

    1. Why not retire? If his heart is not in it, I would rather him retire than hold the boxing world captive for the DLH match. We can't just criticize him for taking it "just for the money" and then criticize him for leaving 20 Million on the table when he could grab it before walking away. This is the honorable thing to do IMO.

    2. Floyd has fought and beat great fighters over the span of his career. If he is leaving, its time he gets some credit for it. Corrales was a dangerous fight I thought he could lose at the time, and he went on to Castillo *2, Judah, Hattton, etc.

    3. What I respect the most is that if he doesn't wan't to fight Cotto, at least he isn't cherry picking the DLH and Hatton fights and then retiring. This way, he leaves the sport to be, for new stars to be created, etc.

Anyways, Floyd was a great fighter who I truly believed didn't want to fight the best as of late but over the duration of his career he MUST be given respect as one of the greatest to ever lace them up. You won't see defense liket that for quite some time again, and you won't see that combination of defense and offense at the lower weights for quite some time either.

He is leaving the sport be, undefeated, and with money and his senses in tact. He gave a lot of his life to boxing. Props Floyd- from a big critic of yours.

If this was basketball I would agree, but this sport can change you life if your mind and heart don't enter the ring with you fully intact. I respect his decision fully.

I basically agree with those. Especially number 1, if you're not 100% into this sport, that is how you can get hurt.
