His toughest fight would be against Cotto, no doubt. He is in a tough place with this- he has to use his height to beat Cotto but his height presents a big target for a body puncher. Cotto TKO10.
I could see it ending early both ways. Williams showed good power there and excelent finishing, he could very well rock Cotto coming in. Also Cotto could very well end it with a liver shot early. Margo was really starting to hurt Williams to the body late in there fight and it took Margo over half the fight to get to work, Cotto would be there at the opening bell.
BTW forgot to mention THANKS for posting the video...I don't get showtime, but it was good to see what everyone was talking about.
Wow, I predicted Williams would win, but DAAAAAMMMNNN! I didn't think he could possibly knock him out first round. Well, for those people who said Paul Williams just slapped, didn't sit down on his punches, etc I'm willing to bet Carlos Quintana would have wished you'd have shut up LOL. I blame most of his first loss on his physichal shape. They said he weighed in at 156 tonight. didn't he gain like 17-21 pds back there first fight? I thought he stepped in the ring weighing around 165 or something. That takes A LOT out of you. Even the 9 pds he gained back was plenty to drain off for the weigh in. Right now I think he's able to beat ANYONE, but the only two people he should fight is Cotto (if he beats Margarito), or Floyd (if he beats Oscar again, and doesn't retire). Both of those fights I wouldn't really pick who'd win. PW would have a lot tougher time with Cotto IMO, but Floyd could get the job done. Honestly though...I couldn't tell from this fight, but if Paul Willaims were to get super skilled, and knew exactly how to use his height, and power....Cotto or Mayweather COULD NOT stop him. He'd be practically unstoppable at 147. The guy is 6'1 or so, he has power, speed, hits you at many different angles, has a great chin, is good at fighting inside, and great endurance. Now the guy has learned how to use his power, and sit down on his punches. If in his next fight he develops great defensive skills....He might as well move up in weight class because NOBODY will want to fight this guy at 147.
If Cotto gets past Margarito then that should set up a fight with Williams ... I don't think that if Cotto gets past Margarito that he would have a problem with Williams, but Williams showed that he's a freak of nature and as long as he can make the weight that he would give anyone problems ... But I think the only two fighters at welter that stand the chance to beat him is Cotto & Floyd ... at 154 ... he'd better stay away from Julio ...
Great win for PW, He caught Quintana with a solid ass shot and Quintana payed for it for not being alert enough in the opening bell. It's easiest to get hurt early in a fight because your head isn't "broke" into the shots yet... PW Better show some respect and give Quintana the Rubber match, he better not ***** out of that, Quintana deserves the 3rd fight.
I agree 100% ... bring on the trilogy ... Quintana deserves it ... and he did grant Williams a rematch ...
It was more of Williams catching Quintana slipping than him out fighting or outboxing ... it wouldve been better if the fight wouldve went more rounds ... but the trilogy would add more clarity to as who the better man is.
if Quintana would of hung in there till about the 8th, I'll say give him the rubber match. Carlos was anihilated, no compitition against a focused Williams seeking the vendetta.
I'm really Happy for Paul Williams, I like the guy alot and I was quite disappointed in the loss, but coming back in that fashion after the loss means more then I think a decision would have the first time around. Floyd sucked some intrigue out of WW and Williams just put it back in.
Doesn't matter, Quintana could have sat on his ass and refused to take the rematch or demanded more money. He could have been fighting Mosley or some **** like that now. He gave Williams the rematch like a man would and now williams should give him the rubber match. Quintana schooled and embarrassed PW in the first fight PW beat down and embarrassed Q in the second fight There should be a rubber match if not then PW is a gdamn hypocrite, nuff said. Great revenge win for the guy but he better not be a ***** about it.
You can not give Quintana a rematch because he got caught with a good punch ... he wasn't dominated ... he got caught slipping ... And if i'm mistaken Quintana did win unanimous on the score cards in the first fight and there was no dispute to who won that fight.
Quintana deserves the rubber match ... Williams should be a good sport and give him the chance to redeem himself ... even though Williams doesn't have to -
Q shouldn't let this fight get to his head, everyone can get caught clean on the chin like that and get KO'd. When a 6'2 lanky ass mofo like Williams gets his body mechanics into a punch it can hurt people. He got caught sleepin in that first round, Williams seemed a little bit sharper and Q seemed like he was a tiny bit too relaxed in there. Either way I did see a sign that Q could have had a good fight today as in the first round Q landed a similar overhand left hand that he landed all night in the 1st fight. PW be a man and give Q the rubber match.
