Wow, crazy. First time I've seen this today and I must say I'm shocked! The Puerto Rican who I thought might have problems tonight, Lopez, finished his fight by easy 1st round KO. And the Puerto Rican I was almost sure would win, Quintana, was obliterated himself in the 1st round. Boxing is just full of surprises.
Williams clearly learnt from the mistakes in the first fight. He has in the past been overly aggressive and not utilised his height and reach to there full extent and often left himself to be countered because he leaves himself in the pocket. This time he fought a much smarter fight and countered Quitana and used his feet to control the distance. Good performance and cleary showed that he does have power when he gives himself the space to get full leverage.
why do people always assume the guy will get injured. injuries in the sport are rare, he would have just gotten knocked unconcious.
Guys remember Quintana got caught many times in their first fight, but was already when he was in rhythm. He obviously got caught cold, but credit to Williams for hurting him and sitting down on his punches to finish him off. Williams got great leverage in those shots and thats what hurt Quintana. However, like someone else said, Quintana did a poor job of defending himself when hurt. He just paddled back, left his hands down, and left himself within range for Williams to tea off him like a day at the home run derby. Im surprised he didnt try grab while being hurt... you could tell he couldnt even see by the look of his eyes (glassy) and he made no attempt to dodge the left when it was coming from far distance.
Somehow, I Fail To See Why Cq Doesn't Deserve A Rubbermatch. Not Only He Deserves It But Pw Would Look Like A Little Cookie-selling Girlscout If He Doesn't Give Q The Rematch....even Though A 1st Rd Tko Is Not Funny 4 The Loser End, A 12 Rd Class Of Boxing Isn't Less Funny... It Is 1 To 1, Let's Bring It On For A 3rd One And See Who Dances With The Big Guys After It, Otherwise Pw Doesn't Deserve A Fight W/the Big Ones Until He Clears This Up...
Williams next fight will be interesting, whoever he fights. He showed improvments during in that 1 round, but can he continue to stay on the outside or will he get drawn inside and look to overwhelm fighters like he used to. Williams has a lot of potential if he can continue to utilise his height and reach and work on keeping his hands up as his defence is poor.
Great win for Paul Williams but even in that one single round he got caught with some easy punches by Quintana, I want Pwill to give Quintana a 3rd fight, it's only fair.
