dela hoya and pac meet in the middle at 147 and that is delo hoya's idea..i remember the writers saying that the fight was a mismatch heavily in favor of dela hoya.. then cotto told the media that he had no issues with the weight and yet here are some people still blaming pac that both dela hoya and cotto were weight drained..
I don't know, I don't claim to a steroid expert. And to be honest, I don't know what's going on now. I assume they are still negotiating, but I got bored of the subject months ago and haven't been following it since. The question still stands. If he's so adamant about following the proper rules and regulations and has such a major issue with Floyd dictating the test procedures, why does he think he can dictate the weights?
I do not blame Pacquiao for the De La Hoya situation. Oscar should have known he couldn't have made 147 healthily and even then, he ****ed up his own situation more by somehow making 145. It was clear to see he was ****ed in the ring, Pacquiao was actually the bigger man on Fight Night in terms of weights, but I don't blame Pac. I do however blame him for stipulatating a catchweight and fighting for a welterweight belt not at a welterweight limit. If it made no difference, then why did he request 145 and not fight at 147? Obviously Cotto agreed, but that doesn't relay the blame from Pacquiao for stipulating it in the first place.
Huh? When you are a smaller man jumping up in weight the tides shift in favor of the bigger man regardless. No one knows how you are going to adjust, adapt or how long it will take to acclimate ones body to a higher or lower weight divison. Which is why sometimes catch weights are put in place to get a fight like this done. After testing the waters against a true WW in Cotto he quickly faced a man who is considered a top and large Welter in Josh. Unfortunately at 140 the challenges there are not ones that would challenge Manny. In order for an opponent to beat Manny you either have to be operating at, on or above his level in talent, skill and ability...which most do not...OR...you need to be the bigger man...longer arms, taller, stronger or more powerful. Which is why Manny who IS NOT a true WW is facing men who hold these advantages. Can't knock manny for seeking out challenges as he has for the better part of a decade.
The question still stands. If he's so adamant about following the proper rules and regulations and has such a major issue with manny dictating the test procedures, why does he think he can dictate the weights? as in the marquez fight
Confidence in his fighter...confidence in himself and his abilities. At 135 or 140 there's no challenges that offer any real threat to Manny. Devon, Tim, Paulie, Urango? None of those fighters will be a challenge to PAC at the moment. Too small and they don't have the ability that PAC does. At least at the higher weight classes it will be a GREAT small man vs good to great big men. At 140 or 135 it will be a great small man vs a good small man. JMM at 135 was his only challenge.
cant believe people r arguing over pacquiao having 1 catchweight fight de la hoya dont count i doubt arum went looking for de la hoya fight de la hoya wanted the fight, and wanted it at 147 and got whooped marquez wanted floyd they had a catchweight, despite being 12 pounds heavier than at marquez last fight floyd doesnt make catchweight no issue
IIRC, Pacquiao vs Cotto initially was a non-title fight, until the WBO saw the name Pacquiao on the cards and decided to chime in. http://www.lvrj.com/sports/51297302.html
It's not just the case of it being an extra 2lbs, it's the whole psychological side to getting someone to focus more on cutting than the actual fight, lets not forget that Cotto didn't want to put his title on the line when the fight was first agreed but Arum and Pacquiao went to the WBO who they persuaded to make Pac the number one contender for the belt, even though he had only had one previous fight at that weight against someone who hadn't had a fight there in years. Cotto's options were to either put his title on the line in a catchweight or be stripped, he was stitched up for sure.
of course they have no problem with it. Like you said later in the thread, they say 2lbs is nothing yet say Cotto needs to go to 145. Then they complain about Mayweather weighing 146 against Marquez. It was just 2lbs, no big deal right? You're best off leaving it be, as bula said, most of these *******s are kids spending their lunch money at a LAN center for 40 cents an hour.
yet you criticize mayweather for wanting pacs blood till the fight it is known that you are a blatant rascist so maybe thats what it is
I simply think that if Pac wants a title at junior midleweight, where the weight limit is 154 lbs, there should be no catchweight. tbh I don't think much of Pac's WW title. It was a paper title that Cotto won from a certain Michael Jennings, and Pac then drained Cotto to 145 (Roach wanted 142) to win it. note: I am not discrediting Pac's win over Cotto, he was still a top welter at the time but shouldn't have had the WBO belt. He should have had the IBF belt that Clottey had but was ridiculously stripped of, but even so, winning a title at a catchweight makes it a lot less significant.
