Hi, im 160 lbs (with small changes - going down to 159, back up to 162, etc) and am 6'1. my question is, since i want to fight am and i know the categories are welter (152 lbs i think?) and middle is 167 (?) should i try to get down to 152? or lose fat put on some muscle and stay under 167. im quite muscular and am about 10% fat. thanks
Try to get down to 152. When you start feeling weak, give it up. It really is a personal thing. I'm 6'1 as well, but I can even make it to below 150. Thing is, under 150 I would be too weak to handle the shorter but stronger guys, plus it really affects my stamina. You can give it a go, but pay close attention to what your body tells you.
i would try to get to 167 at your height, but its your decision. I'm 5'10 and i way exactly 167 and im extremely skinny. so at your height u might want to have a little muscle.
im 5'9 ive fought as low as 118 but felt weak but then moved up to 125 n felt great i was 5%bf i reckon you should go for 152
yeah the thing is ive been told i punch stronger than most boys of my age and weight, so if i managed to get down to 152 id hopefully punch out of my weight class so to speak. but im worried i dont have the hand speed for the lower weight class.
