Forgive me if this has been posted before. I don't think it has recently.

So, who wins in a fight between the Floyd who implores the shoulder roll defense (see N'dou, ODLH fights) versus the Floyd who fights with the high guard forward style (see Judah, Mosley fights)?

Personally, I choose the Floyd with the high guard. What's beautiful to watch about Floyd fighting in this style is that he can absolutely dominate and intimidate opponents. He dictates almost everything.

The key to it is the way he throws punches out of this stance. When he jabs, he comes straight through the punch. He doesn't **** his left shoulder to throw the jab. It's marvelous. By cocking the shoulder to gain a little extra power, you can tip your opponent off to a punch coming. High Guard Floyd doesn't do that and thus, his connect percentage would sky rocket.

Now, I'm sure that Should Roll Floyd would have his moments, but he would always be on the defensive and probably not do enough to get a decision.

    Thoughts?

I say Floyd wins, shoulder roll Floyd also reverts to a high guard when he realises hes facing a fast opponent who can expose his shoulder roll

Hi OnePunchKO, thanks for your edit.

Since you are apparently the grammar Nazi on this particular thread, I'd like to point out that your post of

    is not a complete sentence.

    It's missing a subject (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subject_(grammar)).
There are children whom read these boards and your grammatical form is poor.
    Please consider that before posting.

Of course, perhaps you are just a child and I shouldn't be to hard on you.

Dude don't trip on these fools. This is what they do. Instead of replying to a thread/post with some kind of knowledgeable agreement or even a disagreement. They would rather pick n' paw at typos, grammatical error or misspelled words, even though someone's Thread/Post was CRYSTAL ****ING CLEAR. There is a quote I like to use for posters like that:

"If someone created a thread/post about them being an *******, but misspells *******....It still makes them NO LESS of an *******!!!!"

Different type of defences are useful for different situations

High guard Floyd's left hand punches have less distance to travel, so they arrive at their target quicker

Shoulder roll guard Floyd has his opponents worried about being hit from two different angles

High guard FMJ will win a SD/UD. He will be able to keep SR FMJ from scoring and pepper him with shots. He won't have as much power in the shots though. He won't be able to use torque. He will however be able to use steady pressure which can gain him points. SRFMJ has a better chance of hurting HGFMJ with the right, but will have to lay a ton of traps. These traps will be harder to lay with the pressure and speed of HGFMJ.

Interesting, but speed/timing/volume shuts the roll down offensively. Problem is that most guys just can't out speed or time FMJ. Judah did, but the volume failed him because of stamina. FMJ is equal.

Depends what type of punch your throwing imo. You will get their quicker if your feet are already! in position, as in, if your close enough to the target, but if your at long range, you want get their quicker, simply because from long range you will have to get your feet into position before you can get off, cause when hold your hands high like that, you cant throw punches out until the elbow comes down, where as when you throw punches from your eye line, there is less of a bend in your elbow, making it easier for you to push off the backfoot to shoot punches like the jab, lead right hands etc.

Hands high defense makes it harder to get off from long range cause your elbow has to come down before you can shoot punches out, that type of defense is effective when your closer, if your trying to step to the opponent.

this fool knows less about boxing than my grandma. you can argue a win for castillo but you can't argue that it was a close fight aka no way in hell the injured Mayweather was owned. we saw what happened in the rematch when he was healthy, domination. ****** troll
