The deck was certainly stacked against Marquez, i wonder how he was able to give Manny so much trouble? :think

Timing and concentration accounted for alot of his success.

He's got a high ring IQ but I also think it's exagerrated a bit. He's above the average fighter but well below the likes of Floyd, Hopkins, Toney. I'd actually put Calzaghe slightly ahead of him.

I agree with lucius, JMM does not have the physical gifts of a Floyd or Calzaghe. His ring IQ is what compensates. I don't rate his ring IQ on the level of a Hopkins. Toney is an tougher case to nail down as far as this one goes, to me. But I do consider JMM's ring IQ just a notch below the best examples, like Hopkins or Floyd. I rate it higher than Calzaghe's, who was very smart himself.

JMM is a very intelligent fighter who, unlike most high IQ fighters happens to have an offensive mentality and likes to take risks. I think this is why some people knock Marquez's smarts and dont see that his ring IQ is really his main weapon.

    you for real ni99a?:patsch

that dumbazz kept repeating what he was doin despite marquez making adjustments in their first fight, plus his so called 2 hand transformation now from a one hand one dimensional fighter was only guided by roach. He the type of fools when gets to fight floyd keep repeating the same thing over and over and at the end of the fight will probably say like "oh i try my best but he was just too fast, he is great fighter":patsch

He was able to give Pac so much trouble because he had/has Manny's number. Just like Norton had Ali's...but come on, JMM got dropped 4 times by Pac, once by Barera, and once by FMJ...6 KDs...doesn't speak very highly of one's ring IQ. Fighters with high ring IQs don't get dropped repeatedly like that.

Watch the Hatton and Cotto fights and tell me again about Pac's mediocre ring IQ. Tell me the final shot that put Hatton down wasn't sheer techincal brilliance that most fighters wouldn't have been able to pull off. Check out the Cotto KD in round 4...same as above.

    The Klitschkos.

A girl with her back turned to them with a blind fold beat both of them at the same time.

Floyd Mayweather has to be the best example of this. Ring IQ is through the roof. Real IQ:

The thing I hate about people the most is when they are fake... Floyd is so lost in his Ego, he doesn't even act like a real person.

:huh just because a fighter gets knocked down, it doesn't mean he hasn't got a high ring IQ.

look at ali with cooper and frazier.
    lennox with rahman and mccall.

they both had high ring IQ's.

i think a lot of people overrate JMM. but he's not as bad as you're trying to make out.

I always got the impression that Tyson was actually an intelligent dude, just grossly undermedicated.
