Lewis challenged every available contender during his time, always looking for the biggest test. Calzaghe did nothing of note between beating an over the hill Eubank in 1997 and destroying Lacy nearly ten years later. Joe was a very very good fighter but his career falls way short of Lennox's.
6 feet 5 inches lewis obviously. Wins over Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Razor Ruddock, Vitali K etc places him head and shoulders above Calzaghe
never like lennox lewis style, boring as crap but he's light years ahead of calzaghe, a guy who suddenly famous after beating 39 & 43 years old washed up legend
Lewis has just fought a lot more top contenders than Calzaghe. For example, id put Ruddock above Lacy and Lacy is one of Calzaghe's best wins. Vitali Klitschko H2H is a better win than anyone on Calzaghe's record, fact is Vitali along with his brother was the next era of HW boxing and Lewis beat him in his prime. Hopkins already lost to Taylor and on his way down despite still being a very good fighter. Lewis is not undefeated but he has also beat every man he has ever faced.
Lewis but i think its alot closer than people think. Both fighters "great" victories came against fighters who where past their repective careers. In a mythical head to head id pick Calzaghe though.
Lewis by ****ing miles. He beat every man he ever faced, avenged both his losses by dominant stoppage. I probably underrate Calzaghe, but he did nothing (hardly) of note between beating Eubank and Lacy - nine years.... and never knocked out a single world class fighter. Lewis would certainly get in a top 50 - arguably a top 30 - Calzaghe wouldn't be in most people's top 100.
Whew......I said to myself, if this isn't at least 6 or 7 to 1 in favor of Lewis something is wrong.........
Wow. Listening to the **** talking around here cane be tiring, so I'm going to do something that desperately needs to be done. Post a fact filled, well thought out post instead of talking ****! Lennox Lewis, July of 91, was fighting in Nevada and was the European Champion. Tyson, July of 91, was also fighting in Nevada securing the 4th win after the Douglas upset. My question is, why wasn't Lewis fighting Tyson around this time? Both of these guys had something to prove and Lennox was on the upswing and Mike was on the rebound, its a prime time to fight Mike if you are Lennox. But Lennox didn't get that fight. Instead he was fighting a resume padding can (Mike Weaver, born 1950, WBA Champ in 1982!) and it was the smart thing to do. At that time he had no chance of beating a young Tyson. And, just for all of you jackasses that want to talk **** about not having the facts straight.... First professional fight: Tyson 1985-03-06, Lennox 27 June 1989 Tyson goes to prison summer of 1991, which means there was an overlap for the big young prospect to get a shot for two years. Lewis Professional Record at the time: 15 - 0 (13 KO's) European Heavyweight Champ, BBBofC British Heavyweight Champ Tyson Professional Record at the time: 40-1 (37 KO's). Fighting Razor Ruddock in a rematch in Nevada. Former IBF/WBA/WBC/RING Heavyweight You can argue that its hard for a prospect to get a title shot, but we have much lesser fighters getting them today. Lewis impressive amateur record: 75-7 (58 KOs) Olympic Gold Medal Winner - 1988 1987 Super Heavyweight Silver Medalist at Pan American Games in Indianapolis 1987 Won the North American Super Heavyweight championship 1986 Super Heavyweight Gold Medalist at the Commonwealth Games 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles 1983 Junior World Super Heavyweight Champion
