Higher P4P: Michael Spinks or Carlos Zarate?

I'm not saying Zarate has an amazing quality of opposition, but because of a few weak links in his title reign it gets sold very, very short. I also think because he is a Bantamweight his opponents are not recognised by fans who aren't as into the sport as generally the larger weights are more recognisable. Not that I think this is the case with you.

In my mind it has definitely. I have studied a bit more of Zarate and his era and I think his opponents are generally sold short.

 

There have been some *cough cough* on here that rubbished it in the past...but its a solid body of work. It probably gets a bad rap because there was this pretty significant gulf between the best and worst he took on..But I guess you could say that about Spinks' aswell.

I am STOKED you two are promoting Zarate's resume, he is my most highly regarded and respected bantam.

Personally i still don't think his resume is better than Spinks as stated.

Personally i think Zarate is a bit underdone full stop in here as a fighter. I like him over Olivares.

You won't seem me knocking him, again, just saying i think Spinks resume at the very least matches him.

 

I can live with it being equal. I'm probably overrating it because it gets underrated so often.

 

He's a beast Mac. I remember him still being utterly revered in the 80's boxing mags whenever he came up. He was considered THEE bantamweight.

 

I feel Spinks does have the better resume overall...I guess you could argue it pretty close based on both their records at their best weight but Spinks' heavyweight foray has him comfortably distinguished from Carlos in terms of resume, without a doubt IMO.

For the record though I too think Spinks has better names on his ledger at lightheavy than Carlos does at bantam.

 

Fair enough. Dude- keep on building him up. For many years in here i have put him forward as the best Bantam. Drew101 (great judge) is also a massive fan.

 

Its the pendulum of overrating/underrating...can swing so far one way that it swings back to far the other way.

I do feel he gets sold so very short.

Right now I have him my number 1 Bantamweight, with Olivares right behind him. But it changes almost daily with Jofre and Al Brown getting a showing also.

I do remember you are a big fan of Zarate, and always placed him higher than i thought he should have been, before I became 'enlightened'.

I do not think I'm overrating his resume that much, do you?
