I say Trinidad. More dominant, the man in two weightclasses and only lost at his highest weightclasses and only against ATGs.
I picked Jackson by mistake. Even though Oscar beat him, I still think Trinidad had the better career overall.
Good comparison. Most people will say Trinidad because of his bigger fights, but Jackson knocked out a better bunch of guys than Tito did and I think has the better overrall resume. Somehow I do think Tito fights the top elite level better. Hard one to figure.
the resume is where i'm getting stuck on. i love jackson but trinidad, right or wrong has wins over: oscar vargas campas (a VERY good campas) joppy (when still relevant) reid whitaker (shot) carr (**** it, i like carr) mayorga (well past prime and way too big) that's a pretty solid list of top wins. that's before bernard and then winky dominated the holy **** out of him and jones got the leftovers jackson has wins over: drayton (solid win but spectacular knockout) norris (his best win imo) graham (come from behind and greatest knockout i've ever seen) thomas tate jackson's resume is solid but it's his power and performances that give him his well earned reputation. on resume alone, i think trinidad is light years ahead. that, and jackson suffered the knockout to mccallum in his prime and at his best weight. trinidad was dominated by hopkins near the end of his prime but above his best weight, anything after that wasn't quite the same trinidad.
it is a tough one. I forgot about Tito's win against Whitaker.. Yeah maybe you are right about Tito. Jackson either dispatched them or later struggled. Although the Graham knockout or Drayton or Norris is just incredible.
Why list Oscar as a win when Ttio was clearly beaten? Also, his win over Whitaker should count for about as much as Jones' over him. I e hardly at all. His best wins are then Vargas and Joppy. Do they beat Norris and Graham? Not so sure.
The Norris win trumps anything on Tito's resume though, bar maybe DLH which we all know was a robbery, so don't count that. Other than that Trinidad's resume apears much better but I don't think there's that much in it Like you say Whitaker was shot, Vargas was good but not great. I'd certainly say Herol Graham is as good or better as any legit win of Trinidads. Carr was a good win though. I'm not sure Joppy is any better than Tate as a MW. Reid was a good win but flawed, Campas and Camacho both good solid wins Milton was a decent contender who beat McClellan that Jackson blasted out in 1. Drayton had only just lost his belt so would have been a unification if it happened earlier. Baek would go onto win a SMW strap. I don't think they are fantastic wins but decent ones none the less and emphatic As for dominance, Jackson went 7 years unbeaten as a champion, going 46-1, while being avoided by many. Trinidad on paper went 40-0 but in reality lost against DLH after a 6year reign. Neither truly proved themselves best in any division they fought I'd say it's pretty equal but Jackson was just flat out better and more devastating
Agree with PP as far as their resumes go, but I actually think Tito is a better fighter. Better chin, more will power, he never got blown out of the water like Jackson did against Mike and GMac.
i agree but that's why i added "right or wrong" to the resume portion. oscar didn't lose and i don't count that much at all for tito but it is on his resume. if we're looking at more than the best wins, i feel trinidad certainly has more depth past the top 2. though vargas and joppy are comparable to norris and graham, beyond that jackson doesn't have a ton. if he had beaten mccallum, much different story
mccallum hurts him for sure, more so than tito's lose to hopkins imo. tito was a machine at 147, appeared very good at 154 but was unproven at 160. meanwhile jackson was in his physical prime and best weight when he lost to mccallum. the loses to gman don't count all that much for me as jackson was noticably past prime, despite doing extremely well in the first fight before the knockout
I think that even can be seen in his favour. He came close to beating an extremely dangeroous puncher that was both younger and bigger than him. I don't get too hung up on whether there is W or an L in the margin; for me it's very much about the actual perfomance and the circumstances surrounding it. For example, Duran's loss to Hagler does more for Duran's standing in my eyes than it does for Hagler's, even though Hagler won clearly.
good argument. When you put it that way no Vargas and Joppy do not match Graham and Norris. Norris is a top 154 champion in the history of the weight, and Graham was a top 10 middleweight in 1985-95 era. The power of Jackson was the equalizer since if they fought the same guys, it seems like Tito could fight the top guys more evenly than Jackson could-unitl Julian landed his power.
