Highest Ranked Fighter, Lennox Beats From 1970 - 80?

Am i to assume all the fighters in the 70-80 bracket are all being judged as of their time of fighting in that period i.e. frazier being ranked really high circa 71 but not so much circa 76? And Lewis is being ranked as of his prime? Not really fair but i'll have a go. He beats them all except maybe FOTC Frazier, 71 and 74-75 Ali and a 78-79 Holmes, all of which are pretty tight. All other years in this period he beats them. He beats all other versions of the rest (im flopping on big george 73-74 but cant decide) but i most certainly wouldnt be remorgaging my house to put money on it

 

He obliterates Frazier (cuz styles makes fights and no matter how relentless you are, leaning on to a opponent twice as big as you and is a devastating boxer puncher with nasty uppercuts will get you killed).

Lewis wins a TKO over Foreman. Look, as much as a fan favourite George Foreman is, he isn't invincible and isn't literally outmuscle-ing or walking right through anybody. If Jimmy Young and Ron Lyle can trouble him, Lewis being a dimension above both fighters might give him a serious schooling.

The Holmes and Ali fight could go either way but I'm really leaning towards Lewis to pull an UD against Holmes and the 70s Ali would be a real 50/50. 80s Ali that fought Holmes would get battered. Horribly.

 

Lewis would exploit the same vulnerabilities in Ali's style that Norton did. I would back him to beat Ali everytime.

 

Throwing a jab to the body is not rocket science.

 

Tell that to Ali.

 

Ali also abused thyroid medication to lose weight.

 

Ali got hit a lot in the 70`s and Lewis was better than anybody Ali beat in the 70`s except Frazier, Lewis would have destroyed the out of shape Ali from the Manilla fight.

 

He threw jabs to the body v Williams and Bugner.

 

Norton was better than Bruno and the older Tucker that Lewis looked unimpressive against.

 

He`d be the hell ot of anybody Ali beat in the late 70`s.

 

He had Steward who was a far better trainer than Dundee who li didn`t even listen too.

 

destroyed is a bit too strong IMO. Ali in Manilla threw an absurd number of hard punches. He wasn't in supreme shape but he still absorbed horrible body punches from Frazier and kept firing back even in the 14th round. You don't throw and land so many punches in round 14 after taking a body beating if you are so badly out of shape.

Post Manilla, Ali came in bad shape often. But Manilla was probably the last time Ali displayed that kind of stamina.

Could Lewis beat Manilla Ali? Possibly, but it wouldn't be easy.

 

Yes but it's a styles thing. Back Kenny up and that bucket his back foot is stuck in makes for a heckuva handicap. Even in the rematch with Garcia who was well over the hill by that point and flat out not much chop Kenny had some moments early.

 

Manila Ali would get brutalized.

 

All Lewis has to do vs Norton is land 1 or 2 big rights, and Kenny is there to be ko'd.

The only way Lewis struggles here is if he approaches this purely as a jabbing contest and fails to assert himself with his right. This would be a very silly strategy. I think Steward would be more than prepared and would instruct Lewis to let his dynamite right go. Once Ken gets hit by a big right, it is over.
