Not really. Manilla Ali was still 4 year younger than old man Holyfield, who didn't get brutalized either. Mavrovic went the distance with prime Lewis and he didn't get brutalized either- he even managed to win 2-3 rounds.

Ali is a lot better than 1999 Holyfield or Mavrovic so he isn't getting brutalized.

 

Mark is talking about pre Steward Lewis but if anything he is more aggressive and will be throwing plenty of right hands.

Lewis was a lot faster than the Ali from the Manilla fight.

Holyfield was a much more dedicated athlete and he had a lot of "modern nutrition".

 

Holy was in far better condition than Ali at that stage of their respective careers.

Yep. Even take away the juice, and you have the massive difference in dedication to training. People attribute way too much to the juice, way too little to how crazy dedicated he was. While others were taking time off, blowing up between fights, drinking, doing drugs, Holyfield was cranking away in the gym, eating and living clean.

Look how terrible most retired fighters look. Now, look at any pic of Holyfield you can find in retirement. He never looks anything but lean and fit. He did that bizarre fake celebrity boxing match with Mitt Romney and in it looked like he'd been spending his retirement in the gym at the weight rack.
