Hagler gave him no room whatsoever. Every time Tommy tried to box from the outside, Hagler slammed right through it.

Not really. Plenty of people have been winning on points against Arguello and then ultimately got starched. Heck, quite a few never got starched.

This was my initial choice, but I also recall a lot of folks actually questioning Sanchez's training and motivation, rather than heralding Nelson's future greatness in the immediate aftermath of this fight.

No way. If anything, I would say this fight "exposed" Hearns, and you cannot attribute my feeling to some sort of negative bias, since Hearns is my favorite fighter of all-time. But this fight was not as exciting as some recall - nor was Hearns' performance that noteworthy. Basically, he landed a few big punches in the first round (the impact of which has been likely exaggerated), and for the rest of the fight he looked out-of-shape or punch drunk and not very competitive.

    A decent pick indeed.

This was ths first fight l thought of. I thought Alex Stewart's performance against Foreman was impressive. Jirov's fight with Toney was also a great showing.

    It was a draw.
    My picks Vitali vs lennox
He lost the fight but gave an incredible account of himself vs "the man" in the division
    Ruddock vs tyson
Again even though he lost and got pummeled and in my opinion looked like a very large punching bag for most of the 2 fights, the fact that he did not fall over like a corpse in round one against the guy that many still regarded as the most dangerous man in the division, made him the number 2 heavyweight in the eyes of many.
    Foreman vs holyfield
Although he lost he proved he was a legitimate contender and he earned the respect of many for his gallant effort.
    Duran vs Hagler
Duran acquitted himself very well, using every trick in the book to "mask" all the physical disadvantages he had and was the first to take marvin the full 15. Great achievement especially considering duran was a lightweight 5 years earlier
    Holyfield vs bowe 1
Holyfield earned the respect of even the last few people who may have doubted his courage his chin and his iron will.
    Golota vs bowe 1&2
Golota whooped someone who was regarded as a top heavyweight, still in his prime at 29 and he did it twice.
But he got himself DQ'd. George Foreman called him the besst heavyweight in the world today after the second fight.
    Billy Conn vs joe Louis
The much smaller man gave louis alot of trouble for the first 12 rounds.
    Alex stewart vs george foreman
Alex had been beaten by holyfield on a nasty cut and then whiped out by tyson. He had alot of skill and could punch but seemed to freeze infront of top level competition. Foreman nearly knocked him out in the first round, but alex managed to survive and built confidence with every round pepering george with combinations and then moving out of harms face, making george's face swell up like a balloon. During the fight, larry merchant said "i do not want to question this fighters courage any more!"
    Foreman vs briggs
Foreman won the fight in my opinion.
    taylor vs chavez
Taylor looked like an absolute virtuoso the first 9 rounds, a once in a lifetime performance. Chavez knozked him down with seconds left in the bout, richard steele waived it off after he didnt get a response from taylor after he got up. Curiously taylor was only leading on two of the 3 scorecards at the time of the stoppage and incidentally chavez was a don king fighter.....**** don king.
    Cotto vs margarito
Cotto was incredible in the first 5 rounds but was slowly grinded down by the larger man. After suspicions arose that margaritos hand wraps had been tampered with (lets not argue if its true or not) cotto was given even more credit for performing the way he did and was later in his career given much sympathy for having his prime beat out of him.
    Marquez vs pacquiao 2&3
Marquez did very well and in the eyes of some won both fights, he established himself as a great mexican fighter, especially since fellow mexican greats barrera and morales were battered by pacquiao(although morals was great in his first bout against Pac)
    Morales vs Maidana
The old warrior challenged welterweight KO artist marcos maidana after retiring from boxing after several consecutive devastating losses. He was thought to be washed up, many only watched to see the end of a great fighter others were concerned about his health. Morales' eye was swollen grotesquely shut from the first round on, yet he managed to battle back and in the eyes of harold letterman, earn a draw. He lost a majority decision.

Mancini very definitely came out with more respect and a higher status than prior. The performance gained him heaps of good press and high praise from Arguello. The Mancini story was given a big boost in this fight.
