Highland Brawl V: Jelbirt Melegrito Gomera vs. Lloyd Fabella Jardeliza RBR

Sarguilla putting in all the serious work here. Lulu just charging up big single right hands diving in from outside after long periods of circling with his arms down. Sarguilla diligently getting inside, waiting until he gets within range and chipping away until Lulu flits out again or ties up for a reset.

Lastrilla TKO3 Manosa...but off-screen, as our videographer Brico Santig decided to go dark after the ring intros and didn't go live again until a minute after the KO with both camps already milling around in the ring until the ring announcer made it official and gave the stoppage time of record.

Round 1

Jardeliza is standing off, left arm held vertically down against his side and right glove raised up over his cheek. Gomera is flipping up a high right jab, intercepted on the waiting right palm of Jardeliza. Left hands now sailing in behind the jab from Gomera. Jardeliza fancies himself a slickster but isn't boxing tall, relying on his reflexive prowess and last-second full-body gazelle leaps from the line of fire, and finding all that a poor substitute for a jab and educated foot placement. Gomera is lathering into a nice offensive rhythm, whipping Jardeliza with left hands up top and turning over right hooks while in pursuit. Nice body shots by Gomera. Jardeliza is backed constantly into the ropes, flurrying desperately but unable to keep Gomera off, very ineffective countering at close range.

Round 2

Gomera comes out all nervous energy, looking to maintain his momentum, bunny-hopping in and winging southpaw power-lead combos. Jardeliza is putting in long right hands from outside, able to keep things a little calmer in the nascent moments of this sophomoric frame. Gomera is darting in from various angles, and Jardeliza shanks him between his eyes with the right cross no matter his approach. Jardeliza has found a range and pace that favors him, and is picking Gomera off, never letting him breach without tasting either half (or both) of a 1-2.

Round 3 - lost to posterity, sadly, due to human error (lack of technological savvy on the part of the uploading individual - just calling it straight, irrespective of still feeling sincere gratitude for his broadcasting of this event...)

Round 4, however, was dominant for Gomera, pressing Jardeliza into the ropes and working big uppercut combos on the body.

 

The fifth was a very fun and competitive round, but edged by Gomera with some eye-catching lefts that snapped Jardeliza's head back, despite Jardeliza doing some nice slip & counter work at mid-range, weaving around Gomera's sashaying carpet-bombing attack while pumping hard 1-2s down the pipe.

3-1-? for Gomera in rounds (either 48-47 or 49-46 Gomera depending on what happened in the unseen R3)

 

Possible a missed knockdown call in the 6th? (Gomera went down, after Jardeliza had appeared to land a right cross on his forehead, but the ref waved "no" to rule it a slip )

Regardless, a better round bell to bell for Jardeliza, who is timing Gomera's hyperactive carousel ride and in-and-out bunny-hops now, buzzing his pate with sharply thrown straight rights. Some body swats by Gomera, but not finding his range.

58-56 Gomera or 57-57, depending on R3.

 

Ref getting VERY annoyed with both men in the seventh, handing out a stern bilateral final warning. (some pushing down of the head, maybe some low blows, certainly a bit of grinding of the skulls on the inside...unclear what exactly he took most exception to...)

Rough & tumble round, both men looking a bit ragged, each taking a turn corralling the other into the ropes with big heavy chopping (or even full-on windmilling) rear-hand shots. Gomera with the overall edge in leather thrown and landed, although neither is doing clean work. They're just gutting this out, in spurts, and then hugging it out in prolonged clinches which remain kind of dirty in spite of the referee's exhortations.

68-65 or 67-66 Gomera, depending on R3.
