These are only highlights but it looked like a fun scrap. Berbick was past his prime and Crabtree was a journeyman. But together they threw some nice bombs and had the crowd well entertained. This content is protected
Man, there were some hellacious bombs thrown in those highlights. Sometimes it was a little painful to watch but like a car wreck I could not turn my eyes away. Thank you for posting.
I remember seeing this ages ago, my hazy memory of it was seeing Berbick wing right hands like a lumberjack, and all of them seemed to hit poor old Crabtree. But fair play to him he took his licks and gave a good account of himself.
Crabtree was as tough as a $2 steak. Learned on the job, the hard way, winning ham-and-egger fights at home in Arkansas or nearby venues and then stepping into the deep end of the pool … usually to not get the better of it. He had a couple of decent mini-runs in his career, one leading into this fight (winning a few in a row including against then-undefeated Marcellus Brown and twice-beaten Terry Anderson) and later on when he beat undefeated prospect King Ipitan and Kenny Keene back to back (he lost 2 of 3 to Keene, with one of the losses split or majority). Bobby was one of those throwback guys who had a bit of skill but mostly just toughness and willpower and just enough of a punch. He wasn’t polished but if you fought him, however long it lasted he was going to make it a fight. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
