Its on HBO on demand if you got it. He says " The only thing that worries me about Pavlik is his right hands, left hooks, and uppercuts" WTF does he think is going to happen in there.
As simplistic as Sergio sounds, I think he is basically correct. I think that at least in the early rounds Martinez can slip the jab fairly well. The left hook from outside is a killer. Pavlik uses that a hell of a lot more than people realize, and beats the **** out of opponents that get to hung up on avoiding the right hand. Sergio was open to uppercuts every freaking time he came inside against PW. And of course, the right hand is a no brainer. So, in essence, he is correct.
Worry is not a great word but he should definitely be concerned about all these punches and this fight. It's an important fight for him and hopefully he is prepared and brings his 'A' game.
If I were a Martinez supporter in this fight, the one thing that would bother me more than anything else is his constant references to knocking Pavlik out. When they first announced this fight, right away, Martinez said he would knock Pavlik out in 8 rounds. In his latest interview, one newer than the HBO interview, Sergio and his trainer both predicted an early KO. So, they've gone from 8 rounds to "early," but they have not stopped talking about going for the KO. That is not a particulalry intelligent approach to a Pavlik fight. Especially not for a guy with a 50% KO ratio against mostly sub par opposition.
eh. He would have knocked out Gumby, but Gumby just seamed to plasticize when hit and absorb the shots. Kelly is sturdier so maybe the expect that toughness to be the difference? Of course once they find Kelly is more rock than china, they have a problem.
You act as if Pav is some intimidating force like Liston, or Tyson. Martinez aint scared of him! Expect Martinez's speed to do Pavlik in.
Doubt they're being really serious. Fighters talk. I remember Clottey said he wouldn't worry about getting tired and throwing more against Pac. I remember Mayweather saying he wanted to KO Marquez and that he'd look for it. Hopkins saying he'd KO Jones and that he'd fight out of character. When the fight begins, they just go to work fighting the way they usually fight.
I just rewatched Gumby do Sergio in. Sergio wilted down the stretch. Kelly will bring more pressure than Paul can muster.
You could be right. Fighters say all kinds of stuff, and come fight time they revert to type. Another theory that almost makes sense is that Pavlik has shown vulnerability in the early rounds a few times, and Sergio's people don't think Sergio can do 12 rounds with KP. They may want to just go for broke, and hope they can take him out, or at least do serious damage in the early going.
