Fight has been floating around previously but here's newly available ABC broadcast. I always love watching older complete boxing broadcasts, helps properly put one in the mood and proper state of mind to really get sucked into an event.

I remember watching that fight, love Vilomar!!!! I think there was a point in that fight where Himers leg cramped up and he was kind of frozen on the ropes but Vilomar couldn't put him away.

Vilomar had only a 59" inch reach??? That's got to be the shortest reach for a fighter I've ever heard of!!!

I know right! Didn't even Marciano have 68' inch arms? Poor Vilomar was at a huge disadvantage before the bouts ever even started if this is true.

I've never heard of it before now but will definitely keep my eyes open and ask around. Do you know if it was filmed?

Must be the shortest recorded wing span on a fighter that I've ever heard of...and it's remarkable that Fernandez adopted the style of a boxer instead of a crowding pressure type of fighter. He had remarkable legs on him, that's for sure...watch the first Arguello bout, well,...both bouts with AA really. Those legs of his were his key to victory in his signature career victory in that first bout with Arguello.

Same here, I can't ever recall hearing of one smaller...

I can't recall a measurement but Art Hafey must have had tremendously short arms... and he did exactly what you describe, forging a style based on pressure, power and crowding his opponents... though it didn't work out nearly as well against Arguello for Hafey as it did for Fernandez. A matter of styles, and allowing Arguello his optimal range without having to adjust his feet.

joebeadg, I was thrilled with Villomar's upset of Arguello...now I loved AA as well, but that was the side of boxing that I love so much....when a clever boxer...and an underdog on top of that, scores a victory using their defensive skills so brilliantly...think of Jimmy Young vs George Foreman....and when I saw this particular fight, way back then, I was cheering Villomar on frantically, until it became clear that he had missed his opportunity with Hilmer...oh well, that's boxing for ya.

Yea, I was really hoping Vilomar was going to win too. Always go for the underdog!

Did anyone ever have an easy time with Vilomar? He made everyone look bad — and sometimes foolish — with that awkward walk-around style of his.

I always enjoy watching him fight, and I’ve never seen this one. Thanks OP!

Geez, Hilmer Kenty. There's a name you seldom hear mentioned.

A real nice boxing match for the fans of boxing---I don't see either guy going 3-0 in a boxing trilogy. The opponent is just too good to pull that off.
