One of the most impressive people that I have ever met. My amateur clubs manager took me over to his house, I was like 15 or 16 years old. We sat and talked for a spell. Then he brings out his world title belt, I was like holy sheet! That was cool........ On top of that he is very well spoken and just a classy guy. He happened to be an announcer for the cable tv channel that showed my pro debut. No, the card was not telecast because of me. It was a tribute card in Eusebio Pedrozas' honor, he fought the main. Hilmer Kenty, former world champion and one impressive man.
I lived outside of Detroit but fought in the Detroit area tournaments. I was about 6 miles from the cities limits. Tough place to fight out of at that time. Good trainers all over the place and the fighters followed suite. If Hilmer dated her than she must have had something classy about her.
Kenty was the classiest of the Kronk boys. I would see Hearns and the rest of the boys in the clubs but never Kenty.
I always enjoyed Hilmer’s fights. Like the way he carried himself, like the way he fought. Hope he’s doing well.
