    Andre Ward
    Arthur Abraham
    Carl Froch
    Jermain Taylor
    Mikkel Kessler
    Andre Dirrell

The fighters themselves weren't really the problem. With the power to go back and erase anything, my inclination would be to erase the circumstances that led to the departure of three of them and have the original six fight things through to their natural conclusion (ie wave a magic wand and have Taylor survive the 12th round to lose a decision instead of suffering the second consecutive brutal KO that made him bow out; having Kessler's eye not be mangled; having Abraham not hit Dirrell with that illegal blow etc.)

The same line up just without fighters pulling out. Maybe take out Taylor because we now know he's past it but other than that no reason to change.

I would have loved for Bute to be in the line-up, but when you really look at that list, it is absolutely stacked. I wouldn't want to take anyone out. Showtime did a great job getting all of these fighters together. Maybe if they just could have made it the Super Seven instead with Bute... but really there's nothing to complain about since he's fighting the winner anyhow.

I would have put the top 6 SMWs in there.

    Controversial, I know...

The ONLY change i would have made is replacing Taylor with Bute. I think alot of posters predicted he wouldn't even make it through the tournament. The tournament is good in that guys that i've been saying aren't that great for years (Green, Abraham) got exposed as soon as they faced top talent.

Well, that didn't work out. It's really just nitpicking to expect perfection when offered "very good" in a sport that so often fails to produce even "OK". If you're expecting everything to work out perfectly, I've got a bridge to sell you. Oh and guess what? Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko are fighting each other next week in a co-feature with Mayweather-Pacquiao...

That they still got 6 of the top guys (if not the 6 best) is impressive and the tournament was and still is a good idea.

Taylor had just come within seconds of beating Carl Froch. He belonged.

A decision loss to Abraham would have stung, but would not necessarily have scared him out of the tournament like the last-second KO did. It would be a wake-up call and for all we know he could have come back strong with improved stamina and a more aggressive mindset.

...if it was so good, why did they pay Bute $6m to get him onboard?

Showtime bought your bridge and burned it behind them when they didn't get Bute in. Now, they realised they'd better build a raft and ship Bute back in. What an expensive emergency raft it turned out to be!

JT for Bute, dont know why everyone thinks Bute is the best boxer ever, think he would be beat by most in the tourney

The point is that it's difficult enough to get two of the best to face each other, with all the politics and clashes between promoters. Getting six of the best (if not necessarily the exact #1-#6) to commit to something like this is pretty amazing.

There is no point getting hung up on the fact that Bute is one of the very best Super Middleweights and didn't wind up involved in a tournament of some of the best Super Middleweights in the world. Oh well! If you got all bent out of shape over every big in-demand fight that didn't get made (or that got made but fell apart before it could happen) you'd wind up looking like an Escher painting.

If Showtime had ever come out and said "the participants in the Super Six are hands down the six best Super Middleweights and anyone else in the division is at most 7th best and nobody else in the world compares to these six" then...yeah...there'd be a problem. They've never said that, though. They did the best they realistically could in wrangling together six of the best (not THE six best) Super Middleweights for a long-term commitment to benefit the sport. It's a shame things didn't work out with Bute, yes. It doesn't invalidate the whole tournament, however. So what if he's better than some of the guys involved in it? I'll take several big fights involving top fighters at the expense of a couple of big fights involving one particular top fighter...any day of the week.
