https://boxrec.com/en/event/815373 The first title fight in Japan since you know what. Srisaket II will become the first boxer born in the year 2000 to fight for a belt.
Too early. Kid is clearly talented but Kyoguchi is elite and one of the best fighters in boxing. Unless I'm missing something here @Boxing Prospect and this kid has a very special kind talent that could see him through here despite his age, jump in class and relative lack of experience.
*First MALE world title fight in Japan since you know what (Iwakawa defends her WBO Atomweight title later in September) Completely with you far too early for Simsri who's a talent, but this seems reckless and un-necessary. I would have preferred Panya Pradabsri to get a shot if we could only have a Thai fighting for the belt. Simsri MIGHT have the power to keep Kyoguchi honest and everything, but don't see this as being anything more than a case of throwing the kid to the sharks. One great thing about this is it will be streamed LIVE on Kyoguchi's own YouTube channel, which I believe is rather unique (they usually get streamed by a TV channel or promoters channel, but rarely the fighter's own one, it's all been organic and everything there.
"Reckless" is is a great way to put it. Reminds me of the gross mishandling of Vince Paras who coincidentally also was fast tracked into fighting Kyoguchi while being very young and green, or even worse Lu Bin being matched up with Canizales and potentially being ruined as a fighter. That is indeed awesome! Looks like I'll be setting the alarm again for a fight in 2 months time.
^ Speaking of Paras... Any word on what the kid has been up to @Boxing Prospect @PinoyProdigy? Looking at boxrec his handlers have realized the mistake they made in fast tracking him and have held back a bit. Good. Kid has championship potential if he continues to improve and stays dedicated.
As for Paras, I think it's been a case of rebuilding since the loss to Taconing...but then everything there got derailed in terms of Filipino boxing and we've really no light at the end of the tunnel sadly. My Guess (and it's only that) is that his handlers will give him another year or two rebuilding, let him get his man strength and go again For those who haven't seen Simsri some footage of him is here: https://www.asianboxing.info/videos/category/Thanongsak-simsri
Haven’t heard much, but that goes for most Filipino boxers right now during COVID. Most boxers are sitting at home waiting for fights to officially commence again in the country.
Freeeeee Agent! If he has any desire he looks for a pension payment, or retires. No point fighting at his age, after that lay off
Part of me still wants to see him against Gonzalez. Maybe he can get a tune-up fight later in the year and try to aim at the champions next year.
Just read that Simsri won't be needing a visa due to his residency status. He's in Thailand, but getting him in to Japan shouldn't be an issue, likely explains why he was selected.
