Although at Hattons level this is a bit of an empty bout. I dont see the point in him facing Lazcano. He needs to capitalise on his waning momento and make some noise vs the title holders at 140.Nothing else really matters.

Agree. Lazcano is a good top 10 operator, but what does beating him really prove, what does Ricky Hatton gain. a fight with a 140 belt holder is much more worth while. If not Witter then why not torres...?

Ricky knows that his fanboys will pay good money to watch him fight any old stooge so I don't think he really cares who he faces as long as the risk is low and the reward is high.

Have to remember that Floyd was the only world class fighter Ricky has fought who was still in their prime. He has made a career of fighting tomato cans and then picking up the easy titles against B and C level fighters.

Why would we expect anything different?

come on chaps, he is coming off fights against a modern great in jl castillo and the absolute champ in pbf, is he not allowed a slightly easier night at the office? i agree iys not the fight i would have picked, but lazcano is live and should go at it with rficky thus creating an exciting fight.
all this hatton hating is getting out of hand...

We knew the result of the PBF bout before it happened. As for Castillo Hatton doesnt get a bly. The guy was so old he was spitting dust. If his not going to fight at 47 at least fight a SOMEBODY at 140.Otherwise whats the point?

I take it you don't want Hatton to fight Witter, as Witter is older than Castillo was when Hatton fought him?

Its a comeback fight against a decent opponent, his last few fights have included PBF, Castillo, Maussa (after the Harris win) and Collazo...that a pretty solid bunch.

I hate this 'comeback' argument. I'm sorry, I never realised Ricky retired. Why is it made out like a 'comeback' when he loses, but if he wins and his next fight is juts called, 'his next fight'. The comeback word is used as an argument for accepting an easier fight, which Ive always though is bull****. Its not as if he lost at 140, he is still ring champion there. Imagine if he never fought floyd and decided to fight Lazcano at 140, he would get slated. So why should it be any different now?

Most boxers when they lose a 'big fight' have a confidence building fight next. Thats just the way it works, why pick on Hatton for going down the same route that boxers have done for years?
