Here's a documentary detailing the the fantastic career of the legendary Argentinian middleweight, the heavy handed Eduardo Lausse. It's not in English but there's a fantastic amount of footage here and to be honest, I didn't find it that much harder to digest than if it was in English. It's boxing...... :risas3:

My Lausse threads are usually the fastest to die, but I wanted to put this one out there for anyone that's potentially legitimately interested in the man, like I am. Talk about a forgotten fighter. Lausse is the very definition of one, and he didn't even fight that long ago!

Lausse's head movement while closing the distance between himself and his opponent was absolutely fantastic. A treat to watch, time and time again. Certainly a good nominee for being among the most underrated defensive fighters of the recent past. He was anything but just a huge puncher...

Thankyou!. He is among my all time favorites. Used to watch him train at Stillman's gym. Sparred with heavyweights. Very strong fighter. Tremendous left hooker

He looks good on film, but that record of his is rather unimpressive outside of the Gene Fullmer win. Too bad he didn’t get more big fights. A lot of questionable losses to average fighters

For some reason around 1960, he just disappears off the boxing map....after being considered a
    top MW for some time.

A lot of his fights were wars and he burned out fairly young. He also had trouble with cuts. He was always home sick and had some inactivity because he was always going back to Argentina.

What a great, awesome era he fought in...not just the boxing scene...it's the 50's...period. The music, culture, styles..just everything about that decade.

Lausse really was a complete package... When you can rattle and put down a man like he routinely used to, you know you can whack.

The Bobby Boyd (overall 54-14-3) loss in Feb 1956 appears to be the fight where Lausse began to slip.
Boyd was no slouch himself...at 5'11", he also beat a young Gene Fullmer (as Lausse did), and went on to beat
Holly Mims, and tangled with Joey Giardello, Rory Calhoun, Georgie Benton, and Spider Webb, though losing.

1956-02-15 : Eduardo Lausse 160 lbs lost to Bobby Boyd 160 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10
Boyd defeated Lausse who had a streak of 34 consecutive victories between 1952-1956.

"Long-reaching Bobby Boyd won a split 10 round decision over rugged Eduardo Lausse Wednesday night. Boyd, staggered several times by the Argentine's vicious left hooks, piled up his edge with a harpooning left jab and head work. In fact, Charley Johnston, manager of Lausse, inferred that Boyd used his head so well he butted open an angry gash between Eduardo's eyes in the 3rd round. Lausse was a bleeding, harrassed fighter thereafter. But he got Boyd in trouble at times only to have Boyd swarm back in savage rallies. In the 4th round, Lausse connected with a solid right to the chin. It looked as if Boyd caught it off balance. He went down and the referee started counting after Bobby had bounced to his feet. It went as a knockdown, although Boyd later insisted it was a slip. Boyd proved himself a classy, seasoned campaigner and one of the best middleweights around." -Associated Press

    Scorecards

    • Referee Frank Sikora - 94-93 Lausse
    • Judge Spike McAdams - 95-88 Boyd
    • Judge John Bray - 94-91 Boyd
    • Unofficial AP scorecard - 96-95 Boyd

    Post fight comment

    • "An 8 ounce glove couldn't have opened a cut in a place like that. It was a butt. And the jarring effect from it held my boy back enough for two rounds to effect the outcome." -Charley Johnstone, Lausse's manager, complaining that it was a butt that opened the cut on Lausse.

Nowadays you're likely to simply see a fighter complain after a butt, effectively quitting, with bouts being waved off after a particularly bad butt all too often. Can't recall how many times I've seen bouts in the past several years seemingly prematurely stopped after a butt with no time being given to actually work on whatever cuts or damage occurred. That's what cut men and the minute break in-between rounds is for...

A bump for one of my favorite uploads/content. You can actually see how many people view your vidoes on Youtube, and even what country the traffic comes from. I always get a click looking through the "analytics". To say there isn't a lot of interest in this particular upload would be an understatement, which is a shame considering the quality of the fighter & the story of the man himself.
