I think Clazaghe has slipped a little due to age but is still great, and Jones has already slipped a bit more than Clazaghe due to age. Then I watched HBO 24/7 on the fighters. Clazaghe looks razor sharp and focused. Clazaghe’s accuracy and timing was perhaps the most accurate I have ever seen on a double end bag and that is saying a lot. Clazaghe also went through full medicine ball drills on his stomach. Calzaghe is still Spartan, and a fighter. Jones to me did not show much in training. This is not to say he is shot, but all that was shown on Jones was him bare fisting a speed bag, and looking good, not great. In addition, Jones to me looks like a part time fighter, mentally speaking.

If Jones wins, it will be interesting. The boxing media in general which is centered in North America is slow to recognize White non-American fighters as greats or legitimate stars in the sport.

A win here will do a lot for either fighter.

Best historic parallel would be when Ben Johnson suddenly found form again to win the 100M.

I'd love to see Jones beat Calzaghe. But being as painfully honest as I can with myself... I just can't see it happening.

Jones was already KO'd by a durable pressure fighter in Glen Johnson. Not many would tell you that Johnson's better then Joe, nor has Jones gotten any better in the years since then.

I don't think this is going to end well.

I don't see how a Calz win can do much for him. Jones has been considered shot for the longest time. He hasn't won a genuinely meaningful fight in 5 years.

Calz has loads to lose and little to gain really. Pavlik was in a similar position vs Hopkins, tho a little better if anything as Hopkins was coming off good recent efforts.

I don't know, but Langford had a few post-prime "comeback" performances in his career. Look at his KO wins over Harry Wills and Kid Norfolk.

    Other examples:

    Holyfield against Tyson
Azumah Nelson against Gabe Ruelas (the rematch)
Joey Giardello against Dick Tiger (the first title fight)
Dick Tiger against Jose Torres and Nino Benvenuti
Max Schmeling against Joe Louis (the first fight, obviously)

Don't know about history ,but I would not be amazed if Jones took the dec,I didn't think Joe looked that impressive against Hopkins ,though he narrowly won it ,imo. Both men are a little past it, Jones on paper is the furthest over the hill ,but if he still has his handspeed he could give Calzaghe problems ,imo.

Yep, that fight should be mentioned no doubt. Hagler was the absolute favourite going into that fight, as Calzaghe is right now. Even most of the people rooting for Roy (I am one of them), feel Joe will win this.

Schmeling-Louis 1 might be worth mentioning...

    Edit: And already was.
