I don't think anybody with a brain believes that. But the Lacy and Kessler fights do counter the recent claim that Calzaghe only challenges fighters who are past their prime. Of course, once you bring up Lacy and Kessler, you get people claiming Calzaghe only picks overrated or overhyped fighters. So when you bring up Jones and Hopkins, you get people saying he only fights past-their-prime fighters. And so on. And so forth.
Superman is the best of the decade. SRR the best all-time.:good Calzaghe not even close skill-wise to those guys. Overrrated, cherypicker. Refused to fight fighters in their primes. Case closed. Enough said.
Kessler has a shot, but definitely not Lacy. To be fair the reason why Lacy is damaged good and might not go far is Calzaghe.
To put an end to it all, Calzaghe is an ATG, as well as Hopkins and Jones. Regardless of where they are from they are all three great. You cant really rank any above one another because they all faught eachother in different points of their career (Jones beat a green Hopkins, and Calzaghe beat a fading Hopkins and a shot Jones) Calzaghe is no better than Hopkins nor Jones and neither Jones nor Hopkins are better than Calzaghe. They all three are great fighter and ppl jus need to end it there. The fight last night means nothing. All it proved is Calzaghe is an extrodinary fighter and Jones is shot. All the fight with hopkins proved is Calzaghe is an extrodinary fighter and Hopkins, despite his age, is also an extrodinary fighter. Who knows what would have happened in their primes. Ppl need to quit dwelling on what if and pay attention to what happened. Joe does not need to fight Dawson or anyone else to prove himself his legacy is cemented (however i would like to see him fight Dawson jus because i think it would be interresting).
OK, got it. I'll alert the boxing hall of fame that some guy thinks Calzaghe sucks. That way, they won't induct him. And I'll let Calzaghe know some guy thinks he sucks. That may just be a factor in whether or not he wants to retire. The bad news of course, is that I'll have to tell Hopkins and Jones that they got beat by a fighter some guy says sucks. That will make them feel shitty about losing to a loser.
It's all information anyone who has been following boxing longer than 2 years knows. The problem is most of these kiddies came into boxing with Floyd Mayweather Jr and haven't learnt any respect yet. I mean, it's completely stupid that people consider Hopkins past his best days when he just dominated a guy so many of them said would beat Calzaghe. It's ****ing ridiculous the amount of hate. Was Roy Jones Jr a great win for Calzaghe? No. No one logical is saying that, but it's yet another captivating performance in a 46-0 career. I don't care who you are, you put up some stats like that and hold two ring belts in two different divisions and be ranked consistently in the Top 3 P4P - you haven't gotten there fighting bums.
Not quite. Calzaghe was training to fight Steve Collins, Eubank was training to fight at light heavyweight. 11 days before Collins was due to defend against Calzaghe, he pulled out of the fight and retired due to "lack of motivation" (in his own words). The fight was offered to Eubank and as it was for the vacant title he took it on.
Cal has won a couple of fights lately that IMO make him legitimate in my books. Kessler was jsuta s good as I thought him to be...but Cal beat him. Surprised the **** out of me. I thought Cal had a chance vs Hopkins, two judges said he won, one said Hopkins won. It was a good tight fight. I said Jones was too old, with no legs, and he was. That showboating with his head between Jones hands twice inside of seconds was a million laughs...after all Jones showboated all the time. But no matter what one says...Joe did dodge ottka.....yep... But I've forgiven him that...after all he did belong to warren. Just like Holms never unified because he belonged to King.
