Now that we heard about WBC/Bradley/Alexander absurd can you post examples and reasons of belt stripping of the past? Of course the most absurd ones are the most welcome

So how about WBC stripping Larry Holmes for not fighting Greg Page. Holmes fought for newly created IBF belt.

Larry Holmes: Why are you doing this to me? I was loyal to you, and what about all those bribes I paid?!

Jose Sulaiman: Bribe? What is a bribe?

Clottey was never stripped. The IBF was more than willing to allow the unification to take place. However, Cotto never got his paperwork in on time and the IBF mando kept bitching, so Clottey ended up vacating the belt.

Juan Manuel Marquez had the IBF and WBA super champ belts at Featherweight.
When Bob Arum didn't want to promote JMM's mandatory defense of the IBF, IBF stripped him of the belt. So the WBA also stripped him of the Super Champ belt because he did not hold 2 belts anymore, but because there already was a WBA Regular Champ with a belt, JMM could not get his belt and was left beltless.:-(

After Joel Casamayor won the WBC belt from Corrales he went into talks with Acelino Freitas for a possible unification fight, Freitas had the WBO belt.

Because of these talks the WBC stripped Casamayor of his belt. Later on the negotiations between Casamayor and Freitas fell through and there was no fight. So in other words, Casamayor was left without a belt for trying to get a fight going.

Same situation as with Bradley/Alexander right now.

The We Be Crooks sure like to crap all over the sport.

The first instance I know of which involved a fighter getting stripped of his title was when the NYSAC stripped Johnny Wilson of his title for refusing to honor a contract he had signed to face Harry Greb. This took place in 1922. It had a detrimental effect on Wilson's ability to earn money but Wilson was still considered by most to be the champion despite being banned to fight in several states. He eventually agreed to face Greb over a year later and was defeated. At the same time they tried to strip Johnny Kilbane but Kilbane didnt seem to care much as he was losing interest in boxing and sure enough in less than a year he was stopped and lost his title to Eugene Criqui.

all this is confusing. we should create a sanctioning body and the champs receives a crown for being the champ.
