Im sure you'll find some reason to believe that this isnt proof either, but heres a guy who left Latvia in his teens during the Soviet era saying the guys in the military who were good athletes didnt even know their commanders names.

Impossible to say. but it's hard to deny that those guys would make an impact. they would atleast be solid contenders, my guess is that some would have been beltholders.
