I wonder if Bailey appreciates the irony of labeling Ward a hometown hero when he has a Calzaghe avatar? A fighter who didn't box abroad until his 44th fight and only fought away twice in total, both times against pensioners.

Calzaghe lived in Wales and had over half his world title fights in foreign countries to Wales.
Anyhow you are still wrong if you want to say the UK as his defence #9 was not in the UK and neither was defence #16
Then he had 2 fights in America after that :hi:

    /Consults boxrec.

Alright you got me on those two, didn't know he fought in Denmark and Germany.

So 42 fights in the UK out of 46... still a hometown hero.

Ward has fought away twice in 25 fights - a lot earlier than Calzaghe - and still has many years left in the game.

Not in a big fight he hasnt, and thats where it counts. Many fighters fight abroad early in their careers in fights they are expected to win, but fighting away in big fights when you have everything to lose and nothing to gain counts for alot. Also for a Welshman fighting away in England is away in a foreign country also, and Calzaghe did that several times as well as fighting an Englishman in neutral Scotland
