History tells us that Olympic pedigree is potent, I have been watching Orlando Solis and despite his apparent lack of dedication he has showed a good walk down pressure style and impressive power. I think Haye should be the one taking on Solis because of his amateur loss but I don't really consider Haye a title holder and I don't think he does as well. I want to see the opinions of the classic do you think Vitali at this point in time is taking on a little too much and do you think he should be coasting at this point and time and steal a page from the book of Larry Holmes and pick his spots. I am not sure Solis is ready but he is certainly a danger for Vitali at this point in time and if he does win I am afraid he will turn the heavyweight division back in time to the 80's where the division was split, the best did not fight the best and guys with 10- 13-15 fights got a shot at the title. Haye is content with fighting Audleys and waiting for Tyson Fury and I don't think he wants a tough battle. What are the classics thoughts on Solis. Can he take the title and if he does become champ...what will it do for Heavyweight boxing
You think the division isn't already at that point ? I cannot really criticize the brothers for not fighting each other, but it is what it is. And Haye won't fight either of them. Wlad was going to fight 14-0 Chisora, and Vitali and Haye have been fighting shitty opponents, regardless of the amount of fights. The last 10 years have seen Valuev, Rahman, Maskaev, Chagaev, Ibragimov, Liakovich, Briggs, Ruiz, Toney, Byrd, Brewster and Sam Peter playing musical chairs with four "world titles", so I don't see why you hark back to the 1980s as a low standard. The 2000s has been a lot worse.
At least the Klitschko's have truly been trying to unify, Vital and Vlad were trying to fight Haye and Vitali was trying to fight Valuev but they both have cleaned out the division. I think there is a good batch coming up now but I am afraid if the Klitschko's lose the various champs will hide behind their titles like Haye is doing now. Where does an Audley Harrison deserve a title shot.
Solis to me looks better than Peter, aside from physical shape. He has fast hands, a good counterpuncher and a good dig. Shame he has gone all fat, as before he could move real well and was lethal from the outside, as an amateur that was his forte.
The more I see of Solis the more I like what I see. His work ethic is a problem however. No fighter with that sort of work ethic has ever beaten the odds and got to the top of the heavyweight division and I don't think he will be the first. If he were more focused he could be something special.
I agree Janitor, he really does have a lot of talent. Would be a shame for him to find it better suited to hot dog eating contests than boxing. I actually think he is the most talented fighter at the weight right now, and if he got his arse in to gear he would be the only major threat to Wladimir.
Solis is a big dude, I think he could be a very good one if he is dedicated but it looks like that would be his downfall but other than that he can hit, has fast hands and goes to the body and appears to have effective aggression...the negatives with him are his weight and work ethic
Solis is too much of a slob to truly be a factor in the division until the Klitschko brothers retire atleast. He looks almost like a Danny Williams now.
