it is odd to see a great fighter like Hearns who was great mostly at 147 and 154 and a warrior in great fights sparring when he is older against a young 160 pound guy like this. It doesn't tell me too much. Hearns was the better fighter. At middleweight. in 1990 like in the video? Gerald would probably win but if Hearns got him into the later rounds. Hearns was past his prime then. Gerald was coming up.
Gerald's career ended before he really hit his prime so it is tough to compare him to Tommy, but the sky was the limit with his potential and it is such a shame that he never got to realize it.
I honestly think G-Man had the style to really trouble Hearns. Hearns always had trouble with guys who pressed the fight and went all out on him, despite being the better boxer. His chin and defensive holes would have been his downfall against a guy like G-Man, who just did not give a f#ck about getting hit hard. G-Man was a savage killer with pretty good boxing skills and his power, timing, and aggression would have been too much for Hearns IMO. I got G-Man within 6 rounds.
Love that short clip with the trainer teaching the student in the gym what they actually use in fights
