Source: The Daily Mail Ricky Hatton is set to stir up the British boxing scene by becoming a promoter and battling the likes of former manager Frank Warren over the staging of big fights. The 29-year-old light-welterweight world No1 is to utilise the £15million he made from his unsuccessful Las Vegas superfight against Floyd Mayweather to set himself up as big-time operator outside the ring, aiming to emulate 'Golden Boy' Oscar de la Hoya on this side of the Atlantic. Hatton, already the holder of licences to be a trainer and manager, has applied to the British Boxing Board of Control for a promoter's licence and makes no secret of the fact that he would love to manage Amir Khan, Britain's hottest prospect, who is currently under contract to Warren. Hatton has no immediate plans to quit his competitive career but regards his new venture as a long-term plan to keep him at the centre of British boxing after he retires in about two years. "As long as I'm still involved in boxing that will stop me being tempted to make a comeback," said Hatton. De La Hoya is his role model. "I've watched how Golden Boy Promotions acts and Oscar is like a friend to all his fighters," said Hatton. "That's very rare in boxing. I have had the misfortune to have had quite bad dealings with promoters."
Hopefully his Hitman Promotions can take over British Boxing, like Golden Boys Promotions is going to take over World Boxing. I think it would only be a good thing, this way.
