First of all let me congradulate Khan on a brilliant win BUT It is a pretty common occurance in boxing to see a fighter forced to take a knee and yet still take a few shots when they are basically down. Now salita was unable to get on to his knees so simply kneeled down (which you see pretty often) and yet Khan still fired a good 3 or 4 shots at him before the referee could intervene to start the count. This happens constantly and their should be some sort of punishment for it IMO. Do you agree or am I just being too soft?
I agree, he should have had a point deducted for it. That being said, it was pretty irrelavant in the context of the fight.
Does happen a lot. If you were in one of the biggest fights of your career - a title fight at that.. could you stop yourself throwing when you were in the moment. I'm not sure. Could have been a reflex or adrenaline thing. Not condoning it, would like to see points deducted for it.
Yeah I can understand the fighters doing it in the heat of the moment, especially when they've seen it go unpunished but the referees should really be taking a way a point for it and then maybe the fighters will think twice about it doing it.
He wasn't on his knees, he was squated in the corner like he was taking a ****, gloves covering his ginger beard, crying like a beat child:deal
Aren't they taught to keep throwing? It's a fight and I think the idea of quarter for your opponent is counter-intuitive. It's the ref's job to get in there as fast as he can to avoid the down fighter any unnecessary damage..which the ref did, I guess.
You are being too soft. Salita was on his haunches with his arse and both his knees off the canvas. TBH it made no odds, the first KD effectively ended the fight IMHO.
Yes I did, and squated isn't anywhere near kneeled...when he squated the ref should have taken a point off the cry baby for ducking below the waist :deal
He was clearly trying to do down though but wasn't in position to get on to his knees or was to disorientated to do so. Anyway - Khan fight aside; it does happen alot, even when fighters are ACTUALLY on their knees.
You have to remember, it happens so fast, the adrenaline is kicking into overtime, one fighter smells victory and goes for the blood. They're not being assholes, this is all happening at a very fast pace.
Well Joe Cortez decided upon himself to take a stand about it in the Soto/Lorenzo I fight. Soto clearly continued hitting Lorenzo while he was on his knees and got DQ'd for it. As a result Cortez went from one of the top 2 refs in the sport to not even being considered for the big PPV fights.
