Holding is NOT the art of infighting... holding usually constitutes a lack of infighting skillls. Basically, these excessive clinchers figure why fight when you can get away with holding on for deal life?
His application of the rules was correct weather or not you agree with him so you have a problem with the correct aplication of the rules which is not right IMO. Boo hoo.
Once again, yes the end of the fight is not what is in question. More so it is lack of judgement with the excessive holding that I have a problem with. He also couldn't break the fighters worth a ****. Also, anytime a referee is talked about this much after a fight means that he did a shitty job. You shouldn't even know the guy was there. Unfortunately he acted like he wasn't there for 11 rounds, and then when he should let the action flow, he interjected himself.
I don't have a problem with it since it isn't excessive holding to me.Neither was what Dirrell did or Ward or Berto or Mosley or Lewis, etc.Maybe I'm a bit loose with the term. It is what it s. Most the guys still talking about it don't even know the rules.
Bute will have an easier fight without clinching. He was not good at all doing it and lost a lot of energy. In addition, Andrade's best shots were while Bute was clinching. Some very good uppercuts. I wish the referee would have warned Bute, it would have been good for Bute.
I agree there was way too much holding and I do expect Bute to move around more and clinch less this time !
Bute better come into this fight in better shape then, because he was completely gassed in the last fight and if he plans on running more this time around, he'll be gassed by the 8th round! There is something to be said for the psychological effect of being pressured constantly. This alone can also tire you out faster.
Seeing Bute gas out like that...makes me appreciate and respect a guy like Joe Calzaghe's ability to keep such a high work rate and intensity for 12 full rounds at the same weight.
As much as I dislike Calslappy, I can't disagree with you there. Bute is just not on Slappy's level. He's a good boxer, but Calzaghe just had something special inside of him to keep him going at such a high rate, all fight long.
I think it's easier to move and hit that to clinch. Bute will be fresher at the end of the fight if he doesn't clinch. My opinion.
He's got very good skills and just for that alone, he deserves respect at 168. I don't think he's that hyped to start with...
You see that's the problem with that fight. Showtime did not show the replay of what happened. They just said Andrade didn't leave the corner and that was it. On the Canadian PPV they had different angles that clearly showed Andrade was walking toward Bute and was already halfway across the ring when the referee told him to go back to his corner. Not that I agree with the way the referee handled the fight or anything. I just think that if we're going to have a discussion about it. We may as well get the facts straight.
