Does anybody have any recollections of this contender? Apparently he gave Ray Robinson all he wanted in '51. I was reading on another site (a Ron Lipton interview), after the bout...Ray said after winning a close decision (that some thought should have gone the other way) "Hey, buddy buddy, where have they been hiding...YOU!"
Mimms was a craftsman in the mold of a Burley or Holman Williams, Lipton stated.
Any opinions or recollections from ESB? Nobody talks about Mimms much...

Holly Mims was the ultimate spoiler and knew every trick in the book. There was an old gym story where a Hurricane Carter opponent bailed out and the Garden substituted Holly Mims. Apparently Carter went nuts over the prospect of fighting a cutie like mims and Teddy Brenner had to placate him by saying, "Don't you understand, you can't lose!" suggesting a fix was in. Carter does indeed win the decision but gets dropped by Mims. Mims apparently stated, "Even if I can't win I have to let them know I was there." Take the story for what it's worth.
