That wide right to the body is called the "candy-cane," one of SRR's most-used punches, Stonehands mentioned it before.

Kidney cane would be more appropriate.

    Yah beat me.

It's from an essay I did a couple of years ago about a trainer in Brockton whose name is "The Nonpareil Hilario"...

Go to the Museum of Fine Arts and say that to the leggy tour guide. See how far you get.

    PS/ I don't disagree.

Just. Wow. Great to see, even though it's just a glimpse into this incredible fighters ability, thanks.

Oh man. That hurts just reading it.

Listen to this! I thought that the clip was Holman and Cocoa Kid himself for two days. That whole essay I did was written about THAT -not Young Gene Buffalo. I'm thorough to a fault, but once I saw the clip and the Louis-Simon clip after it, I just "knew" it was Cocoa Kid especially given that musculature and afro (I have a photof Cocoa Kid with his hair like that). I just went with my heart. Then I remembed that Louis fought Simon twice. And that was the beginning of the end. See, the referee in II had hair and a score card sticking out of his back pocket but the referee in I was bald and in different clothes. You can also see Jack Blackburn in I, though he wasn't there in II. So I check the undercard of I and saw that Holman was on that one too -against Young Gene Blackburn.

Then I knew I screwed up. Luckily, I caught it before I published the essay and the clip, tweaked the essay and the youtube text and here we are.

thanks for sharing stonehands. great find. i knew there was a reason i kept coming back to these boards and reading what every idiot thinks about the sport. the langford-jeannette fight was a gem that i found out about on these boards as well.

Thank Surf-Bat. He was kind enough to invite me to watch it.

JJ Johnston (an actor turned boxing historian who wrote "Uncrowned Champion" and "Baby Face and Pop") sent him the video and it was him who actually identified Holman about ten years ago. I just filled in the blanks and posted the thing.

Wow, been waiting for this for a good while now, I remember Surf mentioning it to me a while back.

Really surprised with what I seen, Williams looked amazing. But its only 15 seconds so I cant really say much, but what we have of him he impresses.

I've said it before and maintain the position; Holman Williams definitely deserves to be rated above Charley Burley. His record is much better.
