a few of the guys who Larry defended his half of the title against, challenged “the other guy” after losing to him won a belt. Weaver did. He lost to Larry then beat Tate winning him a belt. Berbick lost to Larry then later beat Thomas which gave him a belt too. Then there was Witherspoon and Smith. So that’s four by my count that actually did win belts after losing to Holmes.

Some of them did it the other way around, they beat a future belt holder before meeting Larry.

What I want to know is, how many of the other guys Larry defended against (who didn’t get to challenge for another alphabet champ) do you think were good enough to win a belt?

Marvis beat Bonecrusher who would hold a belt, so there’s that.

    And Bey beat Page.

I thought Marvis win over Bonecrusher was a good win. He couldn't have had a long reign, but maybe won the title. Cooney could have won and used this left hook to score some nice knockouts, but he didn't have a love for boxing or a longevity for it.

This thread left out Holmes best challengers. Of the listed Cooney was good enough to win a belt.

You would have to give them a shot beating most of them.

snipes and Williams both beat Berbick. Tex was a tough mofo. The right set of circumstances wouldn’t make it unreasonable for Cobb to win a belt in the way Tate or Tubbs did.

If Williams didn't have that suspect chin he'd be a cert to win a belt.

You saying he lost the title fight against Holmes because he had a suspect chin?
