Just interested to know how people think this fight would go down. The Lewis that fought Vitali or the Holmes that fought Tyson?
Lewis and V.K. both beat '87 Holmes........ Holmes was outta touch with boxing in 1987 and bloated.... The Holmes of April of '86 who was reamed by Vegas judges in his rematch against Spinks would be a stern test and a live dog that barks against 2003 "Lewis or Klitschko." MR.BILL
holmes 87? holmes was retired in 1986 after to lose against spinks and he came back in 1988 against tyson. holmes 88 was ready to lose he did nothing since 2 years ago, holmes told king ! i can´t beat mike tyson now, i did nothing since 2 years ago". he fought for money. he was simply meat. lewis 2003 was past his prime but he was trained. lewis would win for sure, by ud or late tko, holmes would take a beating because he had heart. prime vs prime holmes would have schooled lewis
I think they would bring a similar game plan into the ring against each other. They would try to establish their jabs, and look to counter. I think difference in this fight would be Holmes' hand speed. I like Holmes by decision.
I would say more rusty. And although Holmes looks to be in alright shape there, I doubth e was in FIGHTING shape
I would still probably pick Lennox Lewis at 37 to beat Larry Holmes at the same age.. its not that Holmes wasn't capable of competing, or even that Lewis was better, prime for prime, but the difference at this point, would have come down to who was more physical at that stage.. Lewis was still seriously hurting some prime dudes while also taking their best shots.. Certainly Holmes should get credit for outclassing Ray Mercer and going the distance with Holyfield at age 42, but for some reason, those fights don't seem to offer much to answer the riddle of Lennox Lewis.
I forgot to check boxrec for the dates and without trying to cause offense I think some of your points are moot. Lewis was bloated for this fight and he was coming off a lay off that lasted just over a year (and he'd been off a year before that fight aswell). I think both Holmes and Lewis were both a little past it at this point but neither was shot which Holmes proved with some good performances after this fight.
Lewis by KO, the Big right hand makes the difference here and Holmes does not have the power to rock Lenny
Prime for prime, this would have been a very closely contested bout, which I'd give Holmes a 55/45 chance of winning. With their 38 year old past prime versions,I'd say Lewis by decision,or even a late tko. Lewis had retained more of his prime self than Holmes did.
That's Jan. '88, fool...... And Holmes trained for 3 months to drop weight and weigh a high 227 for Tyson...... Holmes was in the 250s in the summer of 1987..... :deal MR.BILL
Hmmmmm......:huh Holmes had very good right hand power, but Lewis owned wicked right hand power.... MR.BILL:bbb
Just how easy do you think it is for Holmes to get hit by right hands? The man was only decked in 4 pro fights in his life, 2 against two of the fiercest punchers the division has ever seen, one an early career knockdown, and the other a righthand sunday punch out of no where. Other then those four ocasions, Holmes was never knocked off of his feet, yet in nearly every hypothetical match up invovling Holmes and someone with a remotely good right hand you seem to predict that Holmes is either dropped or KO'd by a right hand. It just seems odd.
I thought the thread starter had made a mistake writing '87. Matching a fat '87 Holmes with no training against the undertrained & badly faded, but very dangerous Lewis who nearly killed Peak Vitali is ridiculous.
