What he did to poor Moore was not something picked up in the gym. He was using tactics he learned on the streets in childhood. Barkley and Hagler were examples of boxing mastery. Duran-Moore was back alley bad assedness.

I think you need glasses. Holmes, though certainly a great fighter, was actually one of the ugliest HW champions ever. And also, he had a pear shaped body.

Conversely, Ali was the most handsome HW ever and had the most perfect physique of any champion.

Fight shouldn't even have been commissioned realistically. It was terrible. Ali couldn't even pass the exams... couldn't even touch his own ****ing nose.

He partied pretty good for his 60th. I think he's finally accepted that he is too old to fight though, he is more interested in having fun with his band than he is anything else right now. He hasn't been in the gym for ages.

"Holmes-Ali" of 1980 was a farce... Ali at age 38, sick with Parks Syn., 218 lean pounds and no zip left in his body, was shot like a block of Swiss cheese against "The Homer" in Vegas......
    :shock::patsch
Holmes TKO 11 Ali doesn't mean or prove jack**** on a paper plate...:-:)bart

    NOW! "Holmes-Cooney" of 1982 is the goods....:thumbsup

I like Ol' Bert Sugar, but his top-10 list is biased and way off base with reality.....

Funny how today 38 is not particularly ancient for a heavyweight.

Put Foreman in front of him and see if he's 100% retired

But good news all round Bill. I think he's more than earned his rest.

Larry Holmes looked 290 to 300 pounds at his office when interviewed during the "Manila" documentary a year or two ago... He's pretty rolly-polly here in 2010..... He's still my man, but he ain't close to be ready to go 10 rds with anyone.....

I'm guessin' my other man Big George is 300 pounds today as well...

BUT!! Hey, if Larry can reduce to 248 pounds and George get down to 260 pounds here in 2010, I'd still love to see them two old dude's go at it in a scheduled 10 rounder.....

Any truth this is your most yearned for potential matchup in boxing excepting Ali - Frazier 4 and Camacho - Duran 17?

I think Holmes probably outweighs Foreman nowadays. Foreman still looks to be in decent shape, at least weight-wise, but Holmes really looks flabby and paunchy.

Looking at this,I was only partially right on this. Holmes '88 would have beaten the Ali of '80. Larry was still healthy while Muhammad was already in the early stages of parkinsons. Taking both men facing each other at the same age from 28 - 38,I would give the nod to Ali from 28 - 33. Holmes would take it from 34 onwards, due to the Manila factor.

Larry isn't quite that heavy, it was a bad camera angle which made him apear much heavier. He's probably around 280 right now.

Here he is at a local amateur boxing show about a month ago:

For marketing purposes, George has good reason to keep his weight under a semblance of control. Ballooning into a 400 pounder would decimate his grill sales.
