Holmes gets too much credit for being dominant in post-ali HW era

true, but he did have Spinks out on his feet in the rematch, nevertheless he should get credit for dominating his era, even if it was shitty

 

Yes he was, you even watch his fights? He was very fortunate to emerge from the spoon and Williams fights as champ. Both could easily have gone the other way.

He done a million times better against MaCall than Lewis in 1995.
He barely even moved against Spinks II and clearly beat him.

Yes, let's just dismiss the 2nd most HW title defenses of all-time. While you're at it, would you mind looking up the who's who of people in Joe Louis' list when he got the record for title defenses? You know, the whole "bum of the month" club?

Not everybody they fight can be an ATG, especially if the champion IS the ATG that is present in the division. He can't fight himself. That doesn't diminish the accomplishment of a run of title defenses, especially in the heavyweight division.

He was champ for 7 years and had 20 successful title defenses, the 2nd most all time, what more can you want? He didn't duck anyone, cleaned out the top 10 repeatedly. He wasn't charismatic, revolutionary in fighting, important to the era, and he barely eeked out wins sometimes, but he's got to be ranked in the top 10 or 12 at worst.

 

If Holmes was white he'll be called 'The Southern Assassin'.

 

He was dominant regardless of not fighting in Ali's era. He was good enough to be one of the 70s great heavyweights.

 

Rocky beat corpses cuz. An you know damn well holmes was past it in tht tyson fight. Tyson hit harder an faster than Marciano an was all around better

 

I actually think he's rated fine or even underrated.
