Holmes missed out on Page. Not a huge deal.

Always the agenda ridden angle, always. In the truly real world Tyson, Holyfield and Mercer were second career when chasing just bucks instead of easy names and victories.

Of the three big names one was a corpse and the others second career. Nothing to do with his title reign.

    Omg

It's not Witherspoon's fault Larry ran from a rematch, Pages fault he ran from a mandatory, Thomas' fault he ran from a unification, yada, yada, yada, etc, etc, etc.

If you had half an clue you'd realise Page was just one part of a package. A package containing plenty of names.

For the record, Foreman did run away from the Holmes fight in Jan. 1999 after some backer cancelled out and Foreman was no longer gonna see his promised $10 million dollar demand come through and lay down on his table....... Holmes was slated to earn $4 million, but was willing to back down to $2.5 million and still fight, where as Foreman was unwilling to accept a new deal of $7 million dollars...... I WAS PISSED!

Yep, last longer & that's it. Nobody I knew was picking Marvis to get past that jab. Nobody. Just how many rounds of the fight is Marvis going to win if he cannot get past that jab to land his own combos?

And since Marvis was no big hitter, he'd have to land a ton of combos to beat a guy like Larry Holmes. It was never ever going to happen and the guy was not going to win a round, let alone the fight. His chances were about the same as other fodder from that timeframe--Bey and Frank.

Anybody think chubby Bey was getting past that jab? Anyone think for a millisecond Holmes was not going to be turning him with that huge descrepency in footwork? And then we have Bey holding his hands like Ledoux did. Not exactly a defense to break down. That defense was broke down and solved before the national anthem was completed.

Frank was worse. His claim to fame and how he got the shot was the win over Snipes. Aside from that win, that resume is quite a bit below thin. And you also had those Duva stories about a young Tucker having his way with Frank in sparring. If there's any sort of truth to that, not holding your own against an 8 round fighter version of a young Tucker does not bode well as preperations for a title fight w/ Larry Holmes.
