    Well technically once. He got up inside the count against McCall but was controversially stopped by the WBC appointed ref. It surely wasnt as bad when Holmes got dropped on his ass by Snipes and was holding onto the ropes to keep himself from doing the Berbick dance. Oh and did I mention he lost twice to a light heavyweight? Or how he never unified the titles or how he fought in a weaker era barely eeking out decisions against guys with 15 or less pro fights? :hat

    The irony is had Lewis been around in Holmes' era, Holmes would have ignored him and left him to tackle the other champs while he focused on racking up defences against such giants of the boxing world as Lucien Rodriguez, Alfredo Evangelista, Tex Cobb and Marvis Frazier.

    As to the original question, Holmes was tough and a great survivor when hurt. I don't see any version of Ali stopping him.

    I've been giving this more thought again today.
    Take the Ali from the Foreman fight, that version for me was the hardest hitting.
    To be honest i don't see a massive difference in right hand power between Witherspoon and Zaire Ali, if anything Ali would be landing his faster and if one of them put Larry on ***** street late in the fight then why the hell couldn't he force a RSF?.....
    Stranger things have happened and lets not forget, Muhammad managed to put both George & Bonavena away when nobody else could and to top it all off, who did Holmes ever fight that was in any way comparable to a '74 Ali?

    Sure, they racked up countless hours sparring during this time but as we all know, Ali held back during these sessions.

    Maybe it isn't so far fetched as people may think?

    A prime ali would beat larry quite easily in my opinion.
