There is a point being made here....

I'm a huge Gerry Cooney fan...think he had the raw tools to have been a WBA champ during 1980-85...but for sure this guy wasted an entire decade doing nothing...like a hearsehole he kept teasing ...it would be different...than he'd disappear to get drunk...come back promising and rinse and repeat...he was stupid too....why jump into a spinks or foreman fight no preparation....it suggests a bum after fast money to ppisss away on the drink....we all know this kind of man..who thinks he's it...but lets everyone down time and time again after promising it'll be different....in another life Cooney shouldve been a cowboy builder..

Oh yeah...he got paid vs holmes, spinks and to a lesser extent Foreman...

His effort vs Spinks was the most pathetic effort of the 1980"s....but against foreman albeit for 1 round he showed what he coulda been....he looked world class..its all coulda shoulda with this guy.

But respect to him for his work for fighters the last 30 years with FIST...he made millions so hes a success and he conquered his demons

I'm sure there must be 'military-grade' keyboards out there, somewhere...

Would be interesting to see how Cooney's career would have played out with a better trainer than Victor Valle.

Gil Clancy said he wished he would have Cooney early in Cooney's career. Clancy prepared Cooney for his fight with Foreman, unfortunately there was not much fighter left in Cooney at that time.

Cooney was possibly the worst prepared fighter I've have seen for a big fight going into the Spinks fight. Cooney looked like a timid zombie. He made Spinks look like an all time great that night with an atrocious performance.

Cooney was not a bum. He was a good puncher with some defensive problems

Personally, I think this is one of my favorite aspects of the whole show. Holmes did not owe anyone that. It is just one of the classiest little things I have come across
Also, as one never to shy from a bit of "shameless self promotion," every now and again here on the board I share a link to a 60FPS HD No Commentary version of Holmes vs Cooney from a real just, super top notch YouTube boxing channel (wink, wink)

and then, at the same wink wink channel is the HBO Legendary Nights Documentary episode for the Holmes vs Cooney encounter

Those types are bad. Even worse are the zombie keyboard warriors. Reasoning with them is impossible, and they remain fixated two or three things.

Wasn't Renaldo Snipes giving Holmes the business as well? And, while Holmes literally destroyed Shavers twice, well, you know what I am intending to reference. I think it unfortunate that Cooney has the hate he gets from the one guy there, but Holmes is also so, to my opinion, widely unfairly maligned all over the internet, and anyone who likes Holmes knows it happens. There are the questionable fights at the end of the reign, but he came back and won 3-4 fights he easily coulda been stopped in and many refs today may have stopped. He was a champ to my eyes.

Speaking of Holmes...im sick to death of reading how "classy " he was and how "underrated"....seems like old Lar as more troll bots online than a commie heathen state like the PRC or Russia...Ive always found Larry...loud,vulgar and blowing his own trumpet......where was the class in beating Ali like a dog than claiming to have held back....hes spent 40 years telling everyone how he was better than Ali in 74/75 as a sparring partner...where was the class in his bitterness and jockstrap remarks about Rocky...or telling a 22 year old Tyson he was going down in history as a SOB....Holmes was good but no way in hell he is a top 5 HW in my book...
