I think Holmes wanted equal money and George didn't see it that way

Not quite, Larry agreed to lesser pay and signed to fight. What caused the fight to fall through was the promoter wasn't able to meet the pay that was promised to George, so George took his signing money and stayed home. They'd even had a press conference after agreeing to fight and prior to the money guarantees not being met.

As far as I remember, the purses were agreed upon. Foreman $10 million guaranteed, Holmes $4 million. Purse disparity wasn't the issue. The agreement was in place but the financing never materialized. At the end of the day, I think George and Larry still both walked away with the guaranteed non-refundable 10%. But the remaining 90% missed several deadlines, during which time the fight was postponed at least once. And that was that.

    It never happened.

    This.

And I believe Larry pocketed his signing money as well.
