Would you pay to see Holmes vs. Foreman fight at their current ages of 60 and 61 respectively? This is the only fight I can think of that I would be interested in watching, where the fighters are well past the age that would qualify them as senior citizens.
dont know if i whould pay for it,but whould watch it. With all the old fighters getting about,a seniors circuit whould be a good idea,2min rounds, say 5 rds, headgear optional. Was like the Nelson,Fenech rematch 2 yrs ago,way past there best, but they fought as good as they can,and was an ok fight.
I'd watch it, but would be disappointed if they didn't bother to train. I would also complain that it didn't happen a lot earlier, the bout could be called "Finally......Finally". I think Holmes might take the decision, but Foreman looks healthier thanks to his grill so it would be interesting. djanders idea sounds good to me.
foreman would take it i think they should just spar like Jack Johnson did when he was so old like holmes and foreman are.. but man what's the point.. It's much harder to get in shape nevermind box at that age... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqod-seL8gw[/ame]
Back in 1999 I was willing to do the 45 to 50 bones asking fee for PPV..... Here in 2010, I'd do 25 bones....... Also, I would expect the two 60 year olds to be in the best shape possible and at least look serious and perform in a mere 10 rds or LESS fight....... WORD! MR.BILL
I didnt want to see it in the 90's Holmes would have easily beat him. Terrible fight, George knew it, networks knew it, some dumbass promoter didnt and tried to put it on, but it would have been an utter failure at the box office.
Yeah, Foreman certainly had trouble with pure boxers. I realize that he KOd Moorer, but to me it was Moorer's bad decision to stand in front of Foreman that led to that KO, not an adjustment by Foreman. Foreman was losing that fight up to that point. Moorer clearly outboxed and outsmarted Foreman through most of the fight. Holmes was a class above Moorer in the pure boxing category and never would have abandoned his boxing strategy if it was working. I think you are right that Holmes would have won in the 90s (in a relatively boring fight) but if they fought right now it might be different. The only question would be if Holmes (at 60) would be able to execute the boxing strategy. The one thing that Foreman still has is 1 punch KO power, and a tired Holmes could get caught. I still want to see it but I might regret it after watching it.
Yeah I would pay to see it. Both these guys are cut from a different cloth. "Old school" so to speak so I don't worry about them showing up untrained. They have too much pride to willingly be humiliated in front of an audience because they simply wanted a payday. Both have been the heavyweight champion of the world and held the title impressively. I believe both would train and take it seriously. It could possibly be even more exciting than some of the many other PPV's of late.atsch I was actually at Larry's last fight against Eric (Butterbean) Esch. I made it down early to be able to watch the guys train. Surprisingly Larry Holmes hasn't lost much speed on his punches and that jab of his is still hugely effective. Esch was serious about the fight, so much so that when he thought one of the guys interviewing him from ESPN thought he was in it only for a payday, nearly took out the camera equipment in anger. Larry heard the tirade and shrugged with a smile...guess the guy IS serious. Obviously with heavies anything can happen suddenly to end the fight but I think that I would give the edge to Larry in this one.
Just watched the Jack Johnson/Joe Jannette sparring session and although they were just going through the motions those to are pretty damn quick on their feet still. 67 and 71 years of age! I see people in their 40's and 50's that cannot move like that! Impressive.
Foreman didn't really have true one-punch KO power during his comeback, so I doubt he'd have it now. They would both be so slow and plodding -- it would look terrible. Holmes' jab was pathetic in his last fight against Butterbean, and power shots weren't much better.....Terrible fight at this stage.
