Holmes is one of my all time favorites but I won't let my personal bias get in the way. Foreman tears into Holmes over the first seven or eight rounds, flooring him twice and staggering him several times. Holmes had trouble with the assaults of Ken Norton, Mike Weaver, Gerry ****ey and Earnie Shavers. Even Renaldo Snipes knocked him down. With the exception of Shavers, None of these guys hit as hard as George and none approach Foreman in sheer strength. None possess the combination of punch, strength, ferocity and durability that Foreman brings to the table. Holmes is strong and durable - like Muhammad Ali - unusually so for a boxer type. He isnt defensively as good as Ali and may not have quite as great a chin. But he is more constantly active and does not dance around for its own sake like Ali (though I still favor Ali). This last point could have significant one for Larry against Ali, but not against Foreman. Big George runs out of gas in the seventh or eighth round. Holmes early trouble keeps it close for the next four. But then the Easton Assassin takes over with a vengeance, spearing the exhausted Foreman and maybe even scoring a knockdown, but George scores a close decision.
I do not see Hom\lmes more constantly active than Ali, & Foreman's prime durability is suspect. Nevertheless. this scenario could well unfold, & is an unusual ****ysis, Holmes not being sparked out, & Foreman not falling from exhaustion.
Holmes boxes beautifully, controlling the action with his jab and using his movement to evade the swinging wide punches of Foreman. Its a virtual shutout though there are one or two scary moments for Holmes as Foreman does occasionally gets close enough to connect solidly. Holmes chin proves reliably enough to survive these moments though and its a unanimous decision for Holmes.
I pretty much agree. George was awesome against most heavies who stood in front of him like Frazier and Norton, but with a little movement like Peralta and Young gave him or a slow version of Larry in John Dino Dennis we saw a different Foreman and Holmes was a far better boxer then any of those. If were seeing the Foreman who under Sadler kept a wide gate with full power in his walk in jab it would be a close bout for most of ten rounds until Larry took over with right hands on the button. If its the Gil Clancey led George with the close feet and unbalanced movement Foreman would be outclassed, outboxed, and battered by the end of ten. Either way Larry wins.
larry scraypes it ,after a life and death struggle, winning on points over a prime but tiring George.
Holmes had amazing survival instincts in addition to his many other skills. He beats Foreman, who is just too one-dimensional in his attack. Holmes was tremendous at nullifying momentum, a point that is often overlooked with him.
Haha these poor guys are dreaming, Larry holmes the guy WHO got hurt badly by mediocre fighters like shavers, snipes, weaver, spoon. Ithe Holmes who was a right hands sucker is surviving against a killer machine 72-74 George foreman, one OF the best finishers OF all time, BASED ON THE CLASSIC ******ED PHRASE " FOREMAN LOST VS ALI AND JIMMY YOUNG SO HE LOSSES vs HOLMES " LMAO LIKE IF IT WAS A FACT, FOREMAN BY STOPPAGE, THE ONLY REASON WHY WE NEVER SAW A PRIME HOLMES STOPPED WAS BECAUSE HE FACED GARBAGE, AND STILL HE WAS CLOSE TO THE LIMIT WITH ****PY FINISHERS LIKE SHAVERS, FOREMAN WOULd not ALOW HIM. Keep on his feet
Prime for Prime two top 5 heavyweights of all time... I could see it going either way but something tells me Holmes rises to the occasion.
